For those that are doing this, how's it going?
My 3.5 year old is nearing 400 books (we don't count repeats) and poor LO2 is under 100 still...we read but I just get lazy about documenting them. Hoping to get back on track soon!

I am impressed by people who have the discipline to document the 1000 books. I can't be bothered!
I figure we have already reached the 1000 mark based on the average weekly number of books we borrow from the library, plus the books we purchase for her. She will be 4 next month.

We reached 1000 (I did count repeats) within a year so I have slacked off with the documentation!

We didn't keep an official count, but we definitely reached 1000 for DS (with repeats) and I imagine we are close for DD. 3 books a day for a year is already 1095 books, and we definitely read at least 3 a day.

Well, we read 3+ books every night to our lo. That means we read over 1,000 books in one year. Obviously there are repeats. I'm not too worried about not reading enough.

@lamariniere: @mediagirl: Same as you ladies. We read 3 books a night, so have definitely hit 1,000 books already, although repeats are in there. I think at this age, kids really like repeats and being able to predict what's going to happen. We've read some books so many times, that Xander can "read" it himself! And he'll correct me if I skip parts or mix up a word.

Are you guys buying books? Or library? Are you keeping track of it in a log?

@stiletto_mom: there's an app you can track with. Ours are a mix of books we own and library books. Some people don't count repeats so they will have read 1000 different books by the time they finish. I counted repeats though!

I wish I had been counting! Didn't know about the app. We get a stack of 6-10 books from the library every 2 weeks or so, plus all the books in the house, so, a lot have been read!! LO is 3.5

We got to 280 books and became stagnant since I wasn't counting repeats. And then I realized my 2 yo is going to read the same 10 books over and over again for an eternity, so started back up and counted repeats and tossing in a few new ones here and there. Almost at 300 and anticipate reaching 1000 by the end of year if I'm good and keep track.

Never heard of this, but it sounds neat! We read at least 3/day, so we'd hit it easy if we count repeats, so I might try tracking not counting repeats. Seems fun.

DS is 2.5 and I'm sure he has read close to 1000. We read A LOT. DD hasn't been read to as much, gotta get on that!
@jhd: what's the app called?
coconut / 8079 posts
@QBbride: the one I used is 1000 books before kindergarten by the 1000 books foundation. I just looked and there's another one also. Not sure what the difference is!

@stiletto_mom: we buy a lot of books, but that's because we don't speak the local language, so going to the library is complicated. Otherwise we would probably go to the library a lot. I don't keep official count, but it's pretty easy to estimate.

I'm so late in the game on this, but I really want to go back and document what we've read for the past year (call me nuts!). We've had to maintain a reading log for school so they are all written down. We were just given the below yesterday and I was really sad to see just how few of these we've read It's our goal between now and Kinder start (August!) to knock at least these all out.
