Logan (12m) is screaming bloody murder whenever I try to nurse him. He's also clawing at his ears, so he might have an ear infection. I put him in his crib and he seems to be settling down okay. So should I wait until he's asleep and then attempt a dreamfeed, or just skip nursing? We're in the process of bottle weaning,so he's only had about 10 oz of breastmilk today...

How tough! I would dream feed but not push it if it doesn't work immediately. He will probably feel and sleep better with a full tummy of milk if that's how he normally goes to sleep. Otherwise would you pump? Or are you trying to wean?

@junebugsmama: Thanks! Just attempted a dreamfeed, but he woke up and was pissed, so there goes that plan! I'm going to pump because I still want to nurse at night. Hopefully he'll sleep okay.

G at nights will barley drink her milk and will push away when I offer, so in bed she goes!
I haven't tried dream feeds and she has always slept the same -

Sorry to hear! Is he teething and in pain? Then you could try some pain meds an hour or so before you'd normally nurse and see whether that would help.

@Adira: J started to do this around that time! It was a battle to nurse. He would get so mad & upset.
Eventually I gave up -
@Pumuckl: I do think he's teething, but he doesn't really seem to be in pain at all. He gives no indication that he's in pain - just turns his head away from me and refuses to nurse.
@rachiecakes: Ugh, I'm starting to wonder if I'll have to give up too. How do you feel now that it's been a few years? I just feel if I give up now, I'm going to regret it, but I also don't know how much longer I can keep offering and keep getting rejected.

Maybe still give it a try? I guess one dose of pain meds isn't gonna a do any harm and at least you have the peace of mind of having tried it?

@Pumuckl: I did actually give him pain meds the first couple nights because I thought maybe he had an ear infection, but it didn't help. But I also didn't give it much earlier than when I tried nursing, so maybe I'll try your hour-ahead method. Can't hurt, right??

@Adira: That's what I'd say... I really hope it'll work. Was the last nursing session you had a good one? So you'd at least have a fond memory of it, should he really have weaned?

Aww, I'm sorry to hear! I can imagine how you must feel. But at least he seems fine and dandy? I'm glad to hear he doesn't seem in pain. But you have to take care of yourself because it's not just in your mind, your body/hormones are in flux right now! Hugs

@Adira: It bummed me out getting rejected and made me sad when he'd start crying and fighting me to nurse.
J has never been an eater, still isn't excited about food ever. He also isn't a particularly cuddly kid, he doesn't love being held, never did.
For us, I knew it just wasn't in his personality and I didn't want to be the reason he was crying every day/night. Since then there have been many "no mama, I can do by myself" moments where I've had to let go and let my big boy show me what he no longer needs help with **sniff sniff** haha

Weaning with Xander was so much easier because he did it gradually over a couple weeks, so I knew it was coming. Plus he was a little older, so I felt ready. Logan's sudden refusal is killing me though! He's my last baby, so I wanted to nurse for a few more months before it was over! Gahhh!
Yes, it was a good one. And I also got a picture of us only a couple weeks ago, so at least I have that too.
