DD will be 28 months when LO #2 is born, I am wondering for those of you with similar gaps, did you potty train before #2 came? How many months/weeks before? Did they regress?

Nope. If your LO doesn't seem ready I wouldn't push it. I have a friend who potty trained because the second baby was coming, but her oldest never really mastered it and she was cleaning up messes for months. I waited until DD was ready and it took about 24 hours with minimal accidents (that all occurred in the bathroom because she couldn't get her panties off fast enough)

@MamaBehr: Good to know, I feel like there is so much pressure from people to get DD #1 past these milestones before #2 gets here, but you're right it would be easier to just wait for her to be ready. Thanks!

@MrsTiger: we have that exact age gap. We also waited because he showed no interest. I also figured it would've better to have two in diapers than one in a diaper and one potentially peeing on the floor. The baby is now six months and we have been doing light potty training now that he's a bit more in to it.

@Mrs. Yoyo: Thanks, I am off to read all your other posts now that I know you have the same age gap

No, my son is 30 months and not really showing signs of being ready to potty train so we'll wait longer.

Wagon Jr. was 2 years 7 months when Lil Miss Wagon was born, and we potty trained him during Wagon Sr.'s paternity leave. It worked out great! We were up all hours of the night anyway, so whenever we got up to feed LMW, we got WJ out of bed to go potty too. He was ready, though (after the first night accident he never peed in his bed again, so we knew his muscles were developed enough to hold it at night).

No - my kids are ~2.5 yrs apart - he didn't have an interest so we waited - he PT 3 months after his sister was born

No, my kids are 26 months apart so when #2 was born, #1 barely turned 2. We waited until #1 was 2 1/2 to potty train, which felt more doable since by then #2 was out of the newborn stage.

My kids are 2.5 yrs apart and we potty trained before LO2. We started at a young age so she was already fairly potty trained when I found out I was pregnant, but she'd pee on the floor if she got to tired or something. So we tried hard to stop those accidents and they gradually got less. She still wore a diaper at night when LO2 was born since she'd occasionally have an accident at night. She didn't have a regression when LO2 was born, which was very nice and has gotten better about being self sufficient on the potty, she takes her big sister role very seriously and likes to show LO2 how to potty.

My kids are 2.5 years apart and we potty trained my DD1 when she was 26 months mainly because her daycare was transitioning her to the pre school and it was a requirement that she be mostly potty trained. It took about a month before she got it but I'm glad we did it before DS was born. She hasn't regressed and in fact she knows the difference between her lil brother who wears diapers and herself, the big sister who wears underwear. She will say that to me whenever she helps me with the diaper changes!

@MrsTiger: Ideally, I only wanted one kid at a time in diapers. I hate paying for them! We started potty training C this spring and she's done really well with it, as long as she wears underwear and not pull-ups (though she does wear those at nap time and bedtime).

Not pregnant yet, but I plan on having LO (19 months now) pottied trained before baby comes. She's showing interest now, so we are going to start working on it.

Yes, but there was a regression. #1 was 21 months when #2 was born. Now they are both potty trained, which is so weird to me!

P will be 25 months when baby bro is born and we don't plan on potty training him to yet. He shows no interest and I don't see it happening anytime soon. We have a little potty we might show him to get him use to the idea and see where it goes from there but I am in no rush. I would rather wait til after.the baby is born and is a couple months old lol. But ultimately its a lot on my sons timine and not mine

Nope, I had no interest in dealing with regression, he hasn't shown signs of being ready at 26 months. I'm in no rush either, I don't mind diapers. My SIL tried with her boys and neither were ready until 3, so we are slowly introducing it, but not pushing anything.

Dd1 will be exactly 28 months when #2 arrives. We are working on potty training but she is ready and interested. She was peeing in the potty a lot but then I think we missed her window. But she is showing interest again now. Just yesterday she peed in the potty at home again and pooped for the first time in the potty.
I would like her to be day time potty trained by the time #2 arrives. But if she's not ready I won't push it either.
She just turned 2.
