Mine are 21 months apart and will be two grades apart. I'm kind of sad about it because my brother and I were only one grade apart and the same is true for my husband and his sister. In reality, it probably doesn't really matter though. My brother and I didn't do a lot of the same things in school (sports/club-wise), so our grade difference didn't really make a difference. And we had totally different friends. Although maybe that's because we were opposite genders?? Who knows!

Mine are 14 months apart (March and May). I would imagine that would put them 1 year apart. They are different genders, so hopefully it doesn't cause any issues.

Mine are exactly 2 years apart so 2 years apart in school; DD2 was due in Jan but was born in Dec. So they were supposed to be 2 years apart but 3 school years apart.

i really do think it depends on the kid! the october birthday would be pretty set (at least in our school district) and the august very on the cusp, so i would see how they do. someone has to be the youngest and if DD2 tracks well, i would send her in on time, but if there were any question, i wouldn't hesitate to send the next year instead!

ETA: we've also talked about TTC with the hope that S and possible baby #3 be 2 grades apart. so i get thinking about it early!

22 months apart, December and October, so they'll be 2 years apart.

My sister and I are 18 months apart and were 2 grades apart. I saw her all the time but we were very different and had very few friends in common. It's not like we sat together at lunch. But it was nice having her there.

mine are 20.5 months apart and 1 grade level apart. dd (our oldest) is a nov baby and ds is an aug baby so he's right before the cutoff which is sept in our school district. we don't plan to hold him back. the main reason we aren't holding him back is he'd be bored. socially and academically he will do better with older kids. it'll be interesting though. i do worry about challenges being so close in grade level. ds is pretty charming, outgoing, and is able to play with kids easily where as dd is more timid and reserved. so i don't want her to feel like hes overshadowing her. right now at preschool i see it a little bit but for the most part they both play with their friends separately so hopefully it stays that way in grade school where they're both independent with their own friends, sports, academics.

My first two are 18 months apart and per the state cutoff, should be 1 grade apart. But, we are doing private school K for my eldest so she will be the youngest in her class, but 2 grades apart from her bro.

My middle and youngest are 21 months apart and will be 2 grades apart.

Mine are 20 months apart and should be only 1 grade apart because of the way their birthdays fall. Cutoff in our town is August 31. My oldest has a September birthday and my second's is in May. The problem is that holding kids back is really popular in my town and people are doing it as early as May. I think that's crazy and we absolutely would send our second on time but he is not at all advanced for his age and I would hate for him to be a full year younger than a lot of kids. We're going to wait to see how he does with Pre-K and how his brother handles K the transition to K before making any decisions. What is also annoying is that our third also has a September birthday so he will be 3 years behind our second even though they are less than 2.5 years apart. I would prefer for there to be 2 years between all of them so I'm on the fence about what to do with our second.

My oldest is entering kinder in the fall and my younger one will essentially have two more years of montessori since she won't be kinder eligible until she is 5 in 2019. This would make them two grades apart, but I really much prefer them to only be one grade apart!! My older is entering kinder early, so if it doesn't go over well, we'll retain him and then they will be one year apart in grade levels.

I never looked down the road much before getting pregnant with our third though, because they will be 5 and 3.5 years apart. So eventually it will be elementary school, middle school, high school.

I don't think anything would have been different between one grade or two, will have a few opportunities for same teams later in elementary school, but that's about it!

Mine our almost 19 months apart and the cutoff in NYC for public school is the calendar year, so they will be one grade off with a Feb birthday and an Sept birthday. If LO2 doesn't make a fall cut off date they will be two year apart. LO1 being one of the oldest in his class and LO2 in the middle.

My sister and I are one year apart. We were always one year apart in school. The only negative I recall is that my sister didn't particularly like that she entered each grade with expectations already set about her. I did a little bit better than her academically, so the expectations kind of bothered her.
It wasn't a huge deal, though, and there were no other issues being one year apart.

As a parent, I would appreciate having kids in the same school almost every year. Mine will be two grades apart, and this factor was part of our decision to have kids close in age.

My oldest is April and second is February. 22 mo apart and two grades apart.

My second is February and my third will be January (most likely). 23 mo and two grades apart.

My sister is 18 mo older and we were one grade apart (I am an October bday and was always one of the youngest). I liked it for the most part having the same friends and being able to participate in things together. We were also bffs!

This is more about parenting than the grade gap but.. My parents always made me do what she was doing though. She would choose activities she likes and I'd just do the same. We both did dance at one point and I loved it and I don't think she did. We both stopped after a little because she "had too much homework" (uh, in 4th grade). Now looking back she probably just didn't like it and my parents just let her take the lead. Now that I'm writing this all out maybe being a little separated from her might have been nice haha. But again I'm sure it was the parenting..

My kids are 18 months apart, but because my oldest has an August birthday (cut off is Sept 1) they will be two grades apart. I really want them to only be one grade apart, but unless we hold back our oldest, it won't happen. I see no reason to hold him back other than our own personal preference for grade spacing.
