We are doing a white elephant gift exchange at our holiday luncheon this year - I need a $20 gift idea (could be a guy or a girl who gets it).

Last year I took homemade banana bread, tied a ribbon around it, and under the ribbon slipped scratch off lottery tickets. We did a yankee swap and it was the most traded item because of the scratchers. (but none were winners. oops!)

I agree with lottery tickets, they are always a big hit! Also, anything to do with food or baking is a good idea. I like the jars that have dry ingredients, with a recipe attached to them.
I usually put something on the side of a gift to entice people to want to trade it... lottery tickets, gift cards, candy, small bottle of booze, etc.

A friend of mine bought a "mad libs" book and stuffed single dollar bills and lotto tickets between the pages...

I did lotto tickets one year - super popular! And someone ended up winning $5
Other ideas:
- Pair of coffee mugs w/Starbucks gift card
- Nice journal, like a Moleskin
- Board game?
- Maybe a tea infuser with a collection of teas?
- Movie tickets? -

Wine is super popular at my work for white elephant gift exchanges. So much so that they're requesting people NOT do alcohol related stuff to mix it up, ha ha.
Target gift cards are popular as well. I brought a mini-fondue set one year - some small kitchen appliances are less than $20 and those can be fun to gift. Like a mini crockpot for dips.
