Preschool registration is approaching! What is your plan?
We aren't doing preschool until next year. I'd love to do it but finances prevent it, and I don't feel it is necessary right now. LO will be 2 when preschool starts in August.

Next year Lorelei will attend the 2s/3s program 1x/week. They attend with parents. It's at the public school. Then the following year she will go two mornings/week.

Wha??? We've got time! Preschool here doesn't begin until 3 - LO will go to preschool at her daycare (bright horizons)

LO is not going to pre-school until she's 3, so we still have some time (she'll be 2 in April). I really want to send her to the Montessori school but I don't think we can swing that + a nanny. Also going to try to see if we can get her into public pre-k, but that's for age 4.

We are actually meeting with a preschool consultant in 2 weeks--insanity!!!! LO has an oct birthday so he's too young to start preschool this year; we will be applying this year to start in 2015 (when he's 2, almost 3). If he doesn't get in, we will do a pre school program at New York Kids Club (its a facility like the Little Gym or Gymboree).

Already? Wow! I doubt we will worry about it until 3 years old.
He just turned 2, and we do some YMCA time purely for socialization purposes (ha ha and mommy sanity purposes), but with the craziness of a newborn coming up we aren't pursuing anything yet.

Aw. I dunno about cool. It sounds small town! There is only one local preschool program, and that's it. The fees are really nominal. Ellie did it, and I appreciated that she was able to get used to the classroom and teachers for a year with us present before going on her own. They do some really fun activities, and Ellie has had great fun imagining what Lorelei will prefer and want to do. I like that it builds year after year so that full-day K isn't a huge shock. I don't suspect that will be quite as important for Lorelei, because she's much more easy-going, but for Ellie it was very important. Lorelei is just very excited to go to school with Ellie. She has decided that all you have to do to ride the school bus is wear gloves, so she patiently puts some on several times a day to "wait" for the bus. Poor kid.

No clue. DS is 18 months old now, and I thought we don't really have to think about it for another year? His daycare is also kind of a preschool. Not sure if I'll just keep him there or try to find somewhere else.

I don't think I'll start E until she's 3. That's what I did with her big brother too.
She's so attached to me so I don't think it would go over well yet. She's also not speaking clearly (has about 45 words at 19 months but speaks way more at home than in public) and she's not potty trained. We do story time at the library or a learning group once a week and she has regular play dates so I feel like that will hold her off until 3.

We're starting to think about it... going on a tour of a local preschool tomorrow. LO just misses the cutoff as an October baby for 2s programs this fall, but some schools are a little flexible about it, so I'm not sure what we'll do. If we do decide to start this fall, we'll just do half a day, a few times a week.

@hilsy85: WHAT are you kidding me!?
I'm a late November 2012 mom, so this is not even on my radar yet! I'm hoping we will have moved by then so I have more options

My lo was born on Sept 1st, so she'll be two then. I'm not thinking about preschool u til next year at age 3!

Are you guys talking about aomething other than daycare? Our state voluntary PreK doesn't start until age 4 so we've got another year and a half for that.

@scg00387: I am not unfortunately! Believe me, I know how crazy it is. I am assuming he won't get into any of the private preschools we're applying to--they are insanely hard to get into!
@T.H.O.U.: I'm talking about private pre-k--there are no good public pre-ks around us, and they don't start til 4 anyway--everyone I know sends their kids to something else (whether it be private or daycare based) around 2.

Whoa is it time?? We are still in the infant room at daycare. LO is a Nov baby so we have lots of time. Depending on how other classes are at her daycare we will probably keep her at the center.

@hilsy85: Yeah I guess my niece had the same issues when applying in Chicago. Crazy!! I don't know anyone who goes around 2, locally.

@T.H.O.U.: yeah, our preschool is private but not like a daycare since it's only 2 hours a day. Near us, there are preschools that serve as a daycare as well...they start with 2's classes and go up to 6. We opted for private just because it was less expensive and the teachers were still certified.

I can't believe its enrollment time already! Our registration starts in two weeks.
We are having a hard time deciding how many days a week to put Chloe in. The 2s program is 2x a week, but the 3s offer 2, 3 and 4 days! She's made some great friends and I'd like to keep the kids together, but I often forget Chloe is the youngest in her class. Her classmates are turning three this spring, and she won't be three until this fall.. So that means her friends will be going off to kindergarten but she will have an extra year in preschool. I don't think I want her in 3-4-4 over the next three years.

We aren't sure if she will go to preschool or not (gotta see how the financial situation goes), but we won't even think about it seriously until she is 3 and maybe she will go when she is 4. She would just turn 4 when the year would start.

The daycare J goes to has a preschool program built into it, there are kids who ONLY go for the preschool program a few hours/day then there are kids who are there all day anyway (J, since I WOH and can't be with him/pityparty). It doesn't start until 3 though.
