We're usually on the YAY side. We end up with a decent refund each year... and since we had baby #2 last year, hoping that means more money back!

We are usually YAY! Some of it gets saved, some takes us on vacation, and some goes to the house.

I'm hoping this year will be

Gonna be this year... DH messed up his withholding at work so our tax accountant says she thinks we're gonna owe about $5k... ugh!

I'm always motivated to get them done in January. And then it seems like we always have one W2 or something sent well after the deadline. And then I get it April 14th.

I hate it. We owed big time last year. We changed our exceptions to hopefully help, but I'm guessing we'll still owe. Wish we could count the baby as a dependent, but not til next year.

This will be our first year ever getting a refund!

I never know until we actually do our taxes because we try and set everything up to where, if we're getting a refund, it is a small as physically possible. I don't want the government to have anymore of my money all year then I possibly have to. But it is also kind of painful writing them a check. So I try and make it so it's a really small refund which sometimes means we owe a pretty small check.

We always owe. But someone once told me that you always want to owe because if you are getting a refund it means you paid too much to the government in taxes over the year and they basically got an interest free loan from you. So that makes me feel better. I think.

We usually owe or break even. Not worried either way as we have money set aside for it.

I guess I'm an idiot because I didn't know my W4 exemption was supposed to be zero once I got married. I should have read the back of the form. We owed $5k last year because of that even though we bought a house and had a kid. I know it's the same in the end but it sucks to write the check. Hoping for a better outcome this year.

I'm hoping that this year provides a good refund. We only are counting one lo but we bought a house and got a few bonuses where they took a lot of tax out, so I'm hoping it will be sizeable. That money is basically what will pay for our twins' nicu care if they need it. Sadly we won't have extra for a vacation probably, but next year with 3 deductions for kids and no big expenses I am determined to get a vacation!

@BandDmommy: I feel you. It's so hard to owe a lot. Awesome to hear you won't owe as much this year!!

This is the first year we will owe instead of getting a refund because DH owns his own business. Last year was our biggest refund ever thanks to a few credits we got (childcare deduction, rental credit, etc).

We always owe. Never file until April 15 (or October 15 if we file an extension). Better than giving the government an interest free loan though. I prefer not to look at my tax return at all as it is really depressing to see how much the govt takes out, but like some posters have said it is worse in some other countries.

This year is mostly a yay. I love giving the government an interest free loan -- it ultimately helps me budget better during the year (I feel like we live paycheck to paycheck at times b/c I claim zero deductions and qualify for like 8). This year is the first year that I've been the sole income earner so I'm interested to see where we wind up!

I'm getting around $3,000 back this year. I haven't had a refund in years so I'm pretty happy.

ETA: my husband always gets a pretty decent sized refund because in his line of work he is able to write off a lot of expenses.
