...how much is it? We just got our bill from our tax accountant and it seems a bit steep. How much do you pay?

$500 is the going rate around here, plus a little more if yours are particularly complex

It's $250, plus $75 every 3 months for estimated taxes. My DH works for himself on the side and we own a rental property, so our taxes are slightly more complicated than normal.

I would say ours are slightly complicated in that we own 2 condos that we rent, but not too crazy otherwise. Our bill was $690 and we live in themidwest so not a high cost of living area...

CPA's generally charge at least $250 an hour, we are expensive, but not as expensive as attorneys:)

650 I think. That includes a w2, 1099, and 2 schedule Cs. Plus she does my quarterly taxes for me and gives me tax advice throughout the year.

@MrsBeluga: A fellow CPA on HB! Way to go momma! I left public for private a year ago... you are awesome
@Amelieisme: when I was in public accounting, we couldn't get a return out the door for less than $500. I don't think you are paying an unreasonable amount--though I know it hurts!

Around a grand. Our taxes are somewhat complex but I think we're going to look into switching accountants for next year because I'm pretty sure we're being overcharged.

When I did returns on the side, I charged around $500 - $2,500 based on complexity.

Ouch, this thread makes me very grateful that my ex-accountant mom does my taxes for free! For friends, she would charge about 50-100 and then whatever it costs her to file. My cheap hubby would do our taxes for us if my mom couldn't anymore. At these costs I think it is worth looking into TurboTax
