Mine is $380 which seems like a lot but I didn't have any other recommendations for local CPAs.

A friend of ours who is a CPA charges $250. He's excellent from what I've heard but I just don't really want to take all my financial info to a friend.

We do our personal taxes ourselves.
For our company taxes we hire an expensive company and pay them upfront yearly, but they do everything for us, including dealing with auditors.

$250 for my husband's business account ...but this is by his CPA who handles everything for DH's business, including his investors' accounts, so she actually does *tax* on the side.

Wow, some pricey ones on here! We pay $175 to a fantastic CPA. We dropped everything off last week and he just emailed me today that it is done.

$430 for our personal taxes, and another $1300 for my business taxes and quarterly payroll. Ouch... but I trust her and she is on top of her stuff, so I don't think I'll switch!

@sunny: HR Block charged us $229 this year. I'll never go back. They did not do anything special, try to make sure we got everything we might be entitled to, etc. Just a very basic entering of numbers into the computer.

I worked for an accountant for 3 years entering tax information. He did mostly business, but the few personal ones he did he charged $250. More if they had a complex personal business in addition.
Ours is pretty easy so I do it online and pay about $30.

@cmomma17: Yeah. H&R Block charged us $340 this year. Unbelievable. Last year it was $199, which I also thought was expensive. We questioned why it was so much more, and she told us it was because we had additional forms. There was ONE additional form (my short-term disability from maternity leave). And she had to add our son. I really want to talk my husband into something else for next year, because that is outrageous.

$272 at H&R Block. We had a dependent, which is why the cost went up (so they say). That doesn't include the fee for having the money taken out of out tax return to pay the fee. Blegh.

About $250 with a CPA. It was less but went up after we bought a home, got married, had a kid, etc
@littlebug: wow! I always thought the reason why people went to H&R and such is because it's cheaper. Guess not!

If I do a majority of the calculations before hand off - $500-$600.
If I don't do any of the calculations - $800+??
It's done by a CPA. I have a corporate job and DH is a sole proprietor/self-employed.

He's not a CPA but his wife/partner is, and he's a certified tax preparer.
But we have a lot of forms. He started out charging us about $200-$250 but each year our forms got more complicated.

We do our own personal taxes.
I also signed us up to do our nanny taxes ourselves because I didn't want to pay $800/year to a company to handle payroll. I am *seriously* regretting that right now.
