@Raspberry: Completing week three is great! I'm part of a facebook group called Healthy Habit, Happy Moms (or somethings like that) where they frequently say "All or something" - meaning that just because you can't do it all, doesn't mean you can't do something. So its an absolute win that you did something!

I did okay last week considering I had a big BIG high stakes work week - so even though my number on the scale has not budged I feel good about my decisions and sticking to plans where I could. This included two working lunches and a dinner where I made healthier choices than I would have in the past, instead of using these as opportunities to indulge on someone else's dime. Plus I stayed away from the stocked conference room snacks!
Even though I have goals, I'm giving myself a lot more grace this time around to meet them and really trying to embrace where I am vs. being overly critical of myself. Next weekend we're on vacation and, sure, it would have been nice to see the scale dip before then... but I want to relax, play in the pool, make sandcastles, and model for my older daughter that I can do all of these things and make wonderful memories with her no matter my size.

@jennlin821: @lindseykaye: I’ve definitely learned that being less strict with myself is the key to sticking to a plan. So many times I’ve eaten crap in the morning and said, “screw it, I’ve already wrecked today so I’ll just eat what I want and start over tomorrow. Next thing you know, tomorrow is a month later.
I’m going to remember the “all or something” mantra. Thanks!

@Raspberry: congrats on the new middle number
I had a small gain last week, which I was completely expecting and was warranted (+.3, not worried about it lol) I didn't track at all the weekend before and attended a wedding where I had several alcoholic beverages and ate cake. I had a kid free night, a date night with DH and Lyft, so we let loose
This week I'm back at it with tracking and eating my normal healthy foods. I'm going to try to get more steps in this week than last.
Hope you all have a great week!

Did day 2 of bikini body mommy 2.0, super proud of myself for getting my butt off the couch after dinner and putting E to bed. I don't know if I can keep up her 6 day a week schedule but as others above have stated something is good.

@JennyLayneAZ: Good for you for being able to let go and then get back on track!
@lindseykaye: All those choices and decisions are fantastic! Its takes a lot of willpower to make those choices, until they become habits. Your attitude is fantastic. We deserve to be loved and love ourselves no matter what our bodies look like, and want to pass that on to our kids. You really should check out that group I mentioned on FB, Healthy Habits Happy Moms. Its part of some larger group of fitness/nutrition conseling that I'm not part of and they have podcasts too (which I don't listen to) but what you said is the core of their beliefs!
@snarkybiochemist: All or Something! two days in a row is great I have a daily calendar full of random quotes and trivia and this is what is said last Friday
"You need motivation only until a habit is formed. After that, routine will take care of the rest."
@MrsADS: I highly recommend not weighing yourself weekly. Your body fluctuates so much its not really a good indicator! Monthly is better, but really throw out your scale and focus on how your clothes are fitting You are going through a huge bodily change as you slow down nursing so give yourself some grace during the transition. You'll figure it out mama!

@jennlin821: it wasn't even 2 days in a row but it was better then nothing. who knows maybe it will become a habit.

@MrsADS: BF has never done anything to my weight, positive or negative. I've always been so bothered by people saying the weight just fly off either during breastfeeding or after. Neither was the case for me. Don't give up!! Your body could just be adjusting!
nectarine / 2262 posts
@jennlinn821 that's definitely good advice and I try not to weigh myself weekly! My weight fluctuates hugely depending on a lot of factors so I try not to read too much into it.
@graceandjoy It is so interesting how BF affects different people. For me, it has definitely helped in weight loss, although with baby #2 I still had to work really hard to lose the baby weight. And I think this past 6 months or so, it has helped me maintain my weight. I'm definitely still eating more than I normally would and maintaining. And I'm not weaning completely, but I quit pumping at work and my supply is definitely decreasing. And when I did this after baby #1, I gained 10 lbs like, right away. But I think some of that was still eating like I was BFing and not adjusting my eating a little. So I'm trying to be a little more mindful. I eat pretty healthy but I am bad about snacking at night and I have no self control around sweets/treats (office donuts anyone?!).
I'm too busy and tired to stress about it too much! LOL. But I'd like to avoid the 10lb weight gain I had after weaning baby #1 this time around. I am also exercising more than I was then, although I am not sure enough to make a huge difference (exercising maybe 3x/week).

I ate a lot of crap today because I am just so tired when the baby doesn’t sleep well. BUT today I went to the gym for the first time since before I was pregnant! It feels really good to take the first step.
How’s everyone else chugging along this week? We’re finally over the hump.

I'd love to join in! I am also not really PP...just fat I struggled with my weight in High school, lost 40 lbs and kept it off until I had my second daughter in 2015. It's been a steady (but slow) gain ever since. I am fairly good at making healthy choices when it comes to my food. It's how much of it I'm eating at meals that is an issue for me. And working out consistently. That used to be my nap time lifeline when my kids were little but now that they are older it's harder for me. I am NOT a morning workout person.
@HappyBaker: I was doing a free trial of BBG but we are buying a new house and I don't want to spend the money. Loved your Ebay idea. I just went and purchased it for $6! Yay!
My goals include paying attention to my full signals and not going back for seconds at least until I've had some water and waited 15 minutes, walk 30 minutes everyday and do the BBG workouts 3 times a week. I have about 30 lbs to lose!

@Raspberry: Yay for the gym!! I'm doing well with my cardio goal, but totally failing on the no-work-snacks. We have a potluck today and I've already eaten a cinnamon roll. DD was up screaming at 4am this morning, so I'm with you about eating like crap when kids don't sleep. She went back to sleep, but by then it was time for me to shower. I just don't have the willpower when I'm tired!
But don't let that make you feel bad. You got to the gym and that is so huge!!
@Mrs. Sunshine: Welcome! I have about 30 lbs. to lose too. We can do it!

@jennlin821: Thanks!
Question for you ladies - are Bikini Body Mama and Bikini Body Guide related? What’s the difference?
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
@Raspberry: nope. Just similar names. Bikini Body Mama is made by a Canadian momma of 4 who has gained and lost several times using her own program. The workouts are free but she has extras and meal plans you can pay for.
The Bikin Body Guided are created by an Australian personal trainer. Everything is paid with her program. It consists of 3 days a week resistance training, plus additional days of HIIT and things like walking or cycling along with meal plans. She has a program for the gym and one for home workouts. Her appointment has other personal trainers and programs as well.
The PDF I grabbed on Ebay is just her.

@Mrs. Sunshine: LOL I'm not PP either
I am finally, after 3 years, back to my pre pregnancy weight. And, now I feel like I'm stuck. I've been holding somewhat steady for about 3 weeks now (I know that's not technically a plateau...). I have about 27 more pounds to go to get to my goal weight, about 15 to get back into a healthy BMI.

Happy Tuesday!
I did not meet either of my goals last week. I only did cardio 2x (instead of 3) and I missed a Barre class because DD didn't have daycare. I also completely failed at avoiding work snacks - we had a potluck and I was PMSing so the craving/snacking monster was on the loose
We did however have a pretty active weekend, running after a toddler at the park and a 4 mile walk yesterday. Food choices were not terrible, but a few too many drinks and s'mores. Overall, very happy with the weekend.
My goal this week is to cardio 2x, Barre class 2x and cut down on the work snacking. I'm going to drink tea every time I want to snack - its a trick I used when losing weight for my wedding that worked really well.
How about everyone else? Last week? This week?

@jennlin821: Oh my eating schedule was just all over the place this long weekend. BUT, we were literally outside all day everyday and my whole body aches so I think I burned a lot of calories too!
nectarine / 2690 posts
Hi ladies! So WI was Friday, and I lost 2lbs, brining my total lost to 28 or so. However, I feel like I really over did it this weekend. So my goal this week is to get my eating back on track. That's about it lol i miss my veggies and fruits!

I'm going to join in here if that's ok this late in the game? I'm looking to shed 20-30 lbs by the end of the year. I'm currently at 167lbs and pushing into sizes 12-14... I'm much more comfortable in a size 8-10. I feel like that's where my body naturally should be.
I'm carrying extra weight right now for a few reasons:
1) Been on hormones for >6 months doing IVF (ending soon),
2) Stress eating after a TFMR 1 year ago and subsequent infertility,
3) Taking care of DD first, DH second, my patients/career third and me last.
I've found that in the past, I can lose weight pretty easily if I just track what I'm taking in with an app like MyFitnessPal. I eat out of boredom and don't pay attention to what I put in my mouth. So, starting yesterday, I'm back to tracking.
I also signed up for a free trial of Daily Burn... did 2 short sessions yesterday and hopefully something small tonight after DD goes to bed. DH and I have also been debating a Peleton, but I want to prove to myself that I'm committed before we make that kind of investment.
Looking forward to helping everyone stay motivated!

Can I jump in and join too? Two weeks ago I had both boys in for a doctors appointment, my 2 year old refused to stand on the scale so I stood holding him and then did my weight alone.... I was not happy at all with the number. That was the heaviest I've ever been (when not pregnant) at 189. I'm only 5'5" so that weight is not good for me!
I downloaded the Lose it! app and I'm tracking everything I'm eating. I also got a new band for my fitbit so I'm wearing that again. I started intermittent fasting, a 14:10 schedule (14 hours fasting, 10 eating). Basically I stop eating after 7pm and then start eating again at 9am. The no eating after 7pm has helped tremendously! Too many mindless snacks at night plus munching on whatever I packed in my kids lunch... it adds up!
Just doing those things I'm down to 182.6 in two weeks. I also started a 30 day squat challenge, working my way up to 250 squats. I'm trying to find time to workout but life just seems to get in the way. For now I'm going to just be active with the kids and try to walk 30 minutes on my lunch.

@KT326: Those sound like great goals to start! I always have to remind myself that even the slightest or shortest workout is better than what I had been doing. Just gotta start somewhere!
pomegranate / 3438 posts
@yellowbeach: Exactly! With the holiday weekend I ended up being two days behind on my squat challenge so I caught up today. It was supposed to be a rest day but instead I ended up doing 75 squats, walking for 30 minutes then 80 more squats. I'm sweating bullets now! But it feels great getting my heart rate up.
@jennlin821: what kind of tea do you drink? I'm trying to cut down on the amount of coffee I've been drinking so I've been trying out different types of tea. Any recommendations?
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
My eating habits also got thrown off with the the long weekend. But I did workout Monday and walked today so I'm happy with it! I'm also already feeling way better about myself. I haven't weighed myself and my clothes aren't loose though I do think they look better but I feel good and honestly, that's the most important part!

@KT326: you go girl! Hopefully you'll be able to use your legs tomorrow.

@Mrs. Sunshine: they feel pretty good right now! We’ll see what the morning brings The first day was the hardest, I was so sore after just 50 squats!!
kiwi / 598 posts
@Mrs. Sunshine: Thank you! Maybe I’ll check out Bikini Body Mama, can’t hurt since it’s free...
@jennlin821: I’m going to try your tea tip!
I ended up only going to the gym once last week but I’ve already gone once this week, hoping to go again tomorrow. I bought a three month pass and I really need to get the most out of it.
In the meantime I’ve been doing squats while holding the baby as a weight and watching TV lol
pomegranate / 3438 posts
@Raspberry: weighted squats with the baby is perfect! Any kind of movement helps. And going to the gym once is better than zero... I paid 3 months for a gym membership I never used!!

Anyone have advice on how to get through workout soreness with having to hold a baby/kids/live regular life?
I haven't started working out again mostly due to time issues but part of my hesitation is how to deal with feeling like my arms are going to fall off and needing to hold a baby! It's probably less of an issue now that LO is almost 6 months vs. when she was 6 weeks and in the height of colic/reflux and needing to be held for hours at a time but I admit I'm still nervous about this.
Otherwise, I feel like I am doing okay. I still need to cut it out with the nighttime snacking and I am definitely trying the tea idea! My main 'meals' for the day are generally healthy and portioned well. It's already so dang hot out here in FL that I didn't even realize but I planned 3 different salads for dinners this week! The holiday weeknd was fun and I indulged here and there (mostly on a few fruity frozen drinks) but we stayed at a resort with kitchenettes so we were able to do our own thing for most meals and eat with our big group family-style instead of eating out at the restaurants where I know I'd have made less than healthy choices.

Hope it's okay to jump in! This time last year I was working out five times a week and eating pretty well. Then we decided to move back near family - but DH went four months before DD and I did. I basically stopped working out during that time and never really got back into it. I would like to lose 8-10 pounds but more than that I just want to feel better/more energetic.
In January DH and I did a whole30 which was great. It really helped reset a lot of my food issues. I'm definitely not perfect with food but feel pretty comfortable with where we are - whole30 about 60%, paleo 30%, and whatever we want 10%.
But exercise has been much harder to get back in to. I decided May was the month, and so far I have worked out 20 days this month. Which feels great. My realistic goal is four workouts a week. Thankfully DD likes working out with me. I have a few beachbody programs that I really like and have been doing.
Tea is such a big help, I always make a cup when i feel hungry or in the evening when I am bored. Currently loving a watermelon lime tea

@lindseykaye: stretch! Lots of stretching helps keep the soreness down. I've heard epsom salt baths can help too. But for me, I have to stretch for at least 10 minutes after an intense workout. Then again first thing the next day. But I'm usually only extremely sore if I haven't worked out in awhile (like now, ha). If I keep up a good workout routine I may be a little sore but not to where it affects daily life.
@catgirl: watermelon lime tea sounds delicious! Where did you get it?

100 squats done! So I work in a cubicle... I can only imagine what my neighbors think I am doing.... hahaha.
nectarine / 2018 posts
@KT326: I just found it at my grocery store. It's celestial seasonings. I really like it!
@lindseykaye: I agree with stretching! Most of the workouts I am doing have a 5ish minute cool down/stretch but I try to do an extra 5 minutes. I also do a quick yoga/stretch routine every night before bed and when I get up in the morning. It's only 5-6 minutes but I feel like it really helps!
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
@lindseykaye: yes to stretching! My legs don't recover as quickly as my arms so I do ask my LO's to be mindful when they are getting in my lap if I am sore but I've worked out intensely when my LO's needed holding A LOT and you end up being able to do more than you realize!
@KT326: I'm so proud! Good for you doing it at work. I will often not do a workout because I'm embarrassed if I'm not completely alone but I'm learning that you gotta do it when you can!
hostess / cantaloupe / 6486 posts
So far I've done two of my three workouts for the week and walked the other two days! I've also been really mindful about stopping eating when I'm full and feel a lot less weighed down and more positive about myself just from that!
The rest of my goals this week are to complete my third workout and two more walks by the end of the day Saturday!

@yellowbeach: We have similar goals! I use myfitnesspal to track my eating (sporadically... I used to be great, but fell off the wagon. Maybe this will be my goal next week...)
Can't wait to hear if you decide to get the Pelton!
@KT326: Glad you are here! I'm interested in the intermittent fasting. When I was in high school/college, I never ate breakfast - never hungry before 11am. And I was skinny skinny skinny then. I started forcing myself to eat breakfast because it was healthy... but maybe it wasn't for me!
@Mrs. Sunshine: the scale is an arbitrary number and it will take a good 4-6 weeks for your clothes to really fit different. I always lose wight around my natural waist first (I have a very short body, so thats basically under an inch under my bra line), so that is not where it makes a difference in my clothes either!
@lindseykaye: Its totally ok to reduce your exercise if you are too sore! Use lighter weights or do less reps until your muscles are a little more conditioned. I also find that the more I exercise, the less sore I am, or moving through the sore-ness helps.
@Raspberry: Squats are a great workout! Do what you can. All or something!
@catgirl: Welcome to the group!
@Mrs. Sunshine: Sounds like you are having a goal-full week

Sorry I've been a little MIA this week. I'm STRUGGLING this week, for no good reason. Mentally, Physically, Emotionally just totally overwhelmed but again no major stressors and after a relaxing beautiful weekend. I'm trying not to beat myself up, but I can't seem to talk myself out of this slump.
I have been doing ok on goals, missed cardio on tuesday but did get it in yesterday, after talking myself into in for 4 hours. I'm heading to my lunchtime barre class shortly too.
Several people have asked what kind of tea I drink. I've read that green tea is an appetite suppressant so after my morning caffine fix (black tea or coffee) I drink some kind of green tea. In the afternoons, I try to stay away from caffine so I drink fruit tea or herbal tea. I know what I like now, but I stated out by staring at all the tea in the supermarket and trying them out!
Celestials seasonings has these sample packs, I think you get 2 teabags of each kind : https://www.target.com/p/celestial-seasonings-fruit-tea-sampler-herbal-tea-18ct/-/A-13327469?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&fndsrc=tgtao&CPNG=PLA_Grocery%2BEssentials%2BShopping_Local&adgroup=SC_Grocery&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=c&location=9002575&ds_rl=1246978&ds_rl=1247077&ds_rl=1246978&gclid=Cj0KCQjwocPnBRDFARIsAJJcf94SGzJDVqAKe8yAC6V5byfKl2JdPEDoaOVQzR1VhHVQsKFK917AmC0aAt-KEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
These can get you started with what you like. One of my FAVORITES is this apple tea. http://shop.celestialseasonings.com/Cinnamon-Apple-Spice-Herbal-Tea/p/CEL-053108&c=CelestialSeasonings@Herbal&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&adtype=pla&kw=?gclid=Cj0KCQjwocPnBRDFARIsAJJcf95EuVD4mj0hPFvOtajJ8F8guaRJhn7Co2IvsQKFliHmml5PROwREr4aAlkPEALw_wcB
Some of the fruit teas make excellent iced tea, and I even sometimes brew them together with my black tea.
I also started bringing a thermos full of hot water to work. I drink more tea if its right here in front of me, even though the water cooler is close by!

Good morning ladies. Weigh in this morning = -.8 for a total of 29 lbs lost so far I'll take it! I wasn't expecting a loss this week because, well, holiday....so I'm happy for the small loss.
This week my plan is to really keep my points in check, not go over on my weeklies, and walk 5 days.
