Last week, D woke up around 2:30am screaming and crying. I went running into his room (we'd just had a bout of stomach bug with throwing up in the middle of the night, so I thought maybe we were having a repeat appearance) and he was already almost at the door, sobbing, and when I knelt down to give him a hug, he told me he needed to eat. I said, "You need to eat?!" And he said yes and then asked to be "uppy." I picked him up and he was clinging to me, so we sat down on the glider and rocked for a bit. I kept trying to ask him what happened, what was wrong, but he wouldn't speak. He just sat there staring off into the corner. Finally I thought I felt his body relax so I took him to lay him down, and he started to cry again. I sat there until he fell asleep. The next morning I asked him wht happened and he said he was scared because he saw a ghost at his window. This is not the first time he's talked about seeing a ghost at his window, but it's really the first time he's ever been this scared about it.
Fast-forward to a week later and bedtime has become increasingly more difficult. He will not let me leave the room until he's asleep. As soon as I make a move like I'm getting up to leave he starts to cry and reach for me. He just lays there staring off into the corner. I ask him what's wrong and he tells me he's scared. Last night I offered to get the "ghost spray" and spray the ghost to make it go away, and he started screeching "no no!" like he was absolutely terrified!
I think he really thinks he's seeing something. My husband thinks I'm crazy. Is this real? Is this just a stall tactic? Any tips on how to handle this? If I walk out of the room he literally FREAKS.OUT.
