With our first, we stayed in the hospital 2 nights. No complications. The first night was rough and our OB kindly recommended we stay another night. I think it was a good call at the time. Even though our hospital had a policy to always keep the baby in the mom's room, at some point, her constant crying and no method of swaddling would help - our nurse took her to the nursery for a couple hours so we could sleep.
With this baby coming soon, DH thinks we should be able as 2nd time parents, just get on home and leave the hospital after 1 night.
What did you do? Did you prefer to stay at the hospital or hurry on home?
Soon, though. But with me being in the hospital, I've gotten to ask my nurses all sorts of questions. One of which was how soon after giving birth do they make (?) or suggest moms get up and walk around. Their answer... They discharge patients with vaginal birth at approx. 24 hrs after giving birth. For c-sections they suggests moms try to get up to walk around as soon as possible (I think they said within 24 hrs. I can't remember what they said the normal discharge period for c-sections are. At the time, I was more concerned and surprised about how quickly they try to get you to walk around. After reading this thread, I wonder what would happen if I wanted to stay another day. I guess I would have to see how things go and if my Dr thinks I should stay longer, she'll allow it.
