We stayed both nights....my mom was at our house with LO, so we had no need to rush home.

most hospitals here have 5 nights for private patients, and I plan on using it to my full advantage when baby is born

With J we left after one night. This time, I was required to stay 48 hours for L to be monitored because I only got one dose of GBS antibiotics. J stayed with my ILs. I would have preferred to go home, I think.

24 hours with #2, and due to being GBS+ with #3 and only getting one dose of antibiotics we had to stay 48 hours (which was 11 pm), so it was actually 2.5 days. I wanted to go home after like 12 hours

My doc is pretty firm on two nights. Our older also will either be with my dad or her best friend's family depending on how soon little bro comes, so she'll be perfectly happy. The only reason I would push for one night is because my due date is around Thanksgiving and older LO's bday so if I was rushing to try to get home for one of those I would push back. Otherwise, give me two nights of helpful nurses please!

We stayed two nights with my first because they wanted to monitor us for infection. I would have left earlier if it was up to me. This time we're having a homebirth so hopefully that'll be it!

Hospital! It's policy here to have patients stay at least two nights, but even if it wasn't... as much as I wanted to be home, the hospital had the nice adjustable bed and I didn't have to fix my own meals I really needed that because I was sooo tired and sore all over!

We were home the next night. 29 hours after birth. And I had a c-section.
I really just wanted to get to it as a family of four.

With Ds1 it was a much harder albeit vaginal delivery on me and we still went home after one night because it was thanksgiving and I wanted to be home w family.
With ds2 I felt great but still planned on staying two nights because I figured it would be a while if at all that I would have solo time w ds2. I'm so glad we stayed and Dh was w ds2 at nighttime.

We stayed both nights with #1. She was born at 2pm
DS was born at 3pm and I had DH go home to spend the night with DD both nights. DS had jaundice so he had to stay 2 nights plus an additional night after I was discharged.

The hospital policy is 2 nights, and I stayed 2 nights both time. With LO1 it was challenging, and I was so scared of going home without having a nurse to walk me through the process. With LO2 we were experienced parents and mostly felt bothered by the constant checks. It was surprisingly easy, and I wish we could have stayed for 1 night instead.

We stayed 2 nights both time. Next time, I'll leave early if my baby can come with me.

We had a midwife and went home 2 hours after birth with LO1. Hoping for the same with LO2! It was so nice to be home in my own bed. We had help with meals and stuff, my in-laws were local and my parents came from out of town. Highly recommend going home asap!!

With my first I was in the hospital for 4 nights...but it was also because I had preterm
Labor and they spent the first two nights trying to stop it. Second pregnancy I only stayed one night after having the baby and then came home!! I wanted to come home even sooner!!! For me there is something kind of depressing about being in a postpartum room...the room was private and nice and all the nurses were great but I just wanted to come home!!

@bluestriped bee: that's odd. Most insurance pays for 48 hours for vaginal delivery so if you don't want to leave I don't see how they can force you to. I especially don't see your OB signing off if you tell her you needed the extra day. Beyond that I would think you need insurance approval unless you want to pay OOP?

I stayed two nights. It was nice to have the help, but I was being monitored for hypertension, anyways.

I stayed two nights. Could've stayed a week. I loved our hospital! They bring you coffee, warm towels and blankets, everyone was super nice. It was like a hotel. We just watched the World Cup on TV all day and snuggled. We only lived two blocks away so lo1 came to visit several times. And he was happy as a clam with the grandparents. We jokes about how it was like a vacation!

With our first, we stayed for 4 nights after she was born. I had a C-section so we would have been there for 3 nights anyways, but we stayed the extra night because DD was dealing with jaundice.

I don't plan to rush home for future kids. Largely just because you don't know what complications might arise and I would rather be in the hospital to be able to catch them and deal with them immediately in those first couple of days.

@regberadaisy: so I asked my nurse this morning and she said they do like to discharge vaginal delivery patients after 24 hours if the mother is healthy and has no complications. She said its harder because insurance companies might not pay for that extra day if it's not necessary. She did say that it is odd for a night nurse to discharge a patient at 10:30p. She said its usually the daytime nurses that do discharges. So she thinks that it was probably a discharge that was requested by the patient.
Oh, for c-sections, if mom is healthy and no complications (and pain is well managed), my hospital will discharge after 2 days.

@bluestriped bee: wow! That really surprises me especially the C-sections. Our hospital has 3 nights as the standard for a section but they told us that insurance is required to pay for 4 nights. It seems like your hospital is really trying to rush people out of there.
