Mine was a first time nursery- but still budget! I will take a photo tomorrow if you want- but google Scandinavian nurseries- that was our inspiration.
Eclectic, colorful, simple. I'm really happy with how ours is turning out.

I really only bought a crib mattress and a crib sheet. We knew we were going to move and both LO's had to share a room so there wasn't much I could do.

The only things that we bought for our second nursery was basically the paint. We got a crib and dresser (used) from my MIL, used embroidery hoops (we bought those too- super cheap) with fabric inside as wall decoration, made the mobile from felt that I already had and my mom made the curtains.

Okay so I'm not doing a second nursery and my first one is costing me over $100, but I do have some DIY ideas that might help! If you already have all the furniture really the biggest thing to make the nursery pop is going to be the wall decor I think. I'm DIY'ing most of ours on the super cheap. I recommend getting canvases and supplies at Michaels, if you have one near you. I spent $50 a few weeks ago and it bought me two big canvases (a 24x30 and a 20x20), some paint, one frame, card stock, and a bunch of felt with glass beads and an embroidery hoop. here is what I'm making with it… some of which is still in progress. And excuse the crappy cell phone pics.

So we have here… a big canvas I painted this weekend for over her crib, a mobile (still in progress, I think I might add some clouds with white felt and maybe more beads?), and some "Ohio art." I still have another canvas I plan to paint (not sure with what yet! probably something simple and graphic). And then I ordered a print on etsy (the hedgehogs, only $15) that I'm going to print myself, and I also just made this quote in Word which I am converting to a jpeg and getting printed as a photo (which I've done before and works really well) for practically nothing.

I feel like all the art gives a room a ton of personality and it's so so easy to do it on the cheap!

We don't need to do much for a second LO.
We will need:
A crib
A mattress
And NOTHING else.
We already have sheets because LO had like 4-5 sheets to switch in&out and his dresser and closet are plenty spacious so we literally would just need a space for a baby to sleep.
Even that isn't a priority for the first month of life, seeing as newborns likely won't use the crib anyway.

The first pic is the paint job in #2's room, just finished last week. Still not sure I love it, but didn't cost anything as we used existing paint leftover from other rooms in the house.

Second pic is something I did for #1, but was less than $10 and so fun to make! Also there is a link online (courtesy @Running Elley: I believe) that we did the rest of the nursery wall decor from free printables. I bought cheapie frames from a store going out of business.

We are also sanding and re-staining all furniture (my childhood furniture!) to match the crib. We did buy a new crib, but the stain was $16! The work to sand and refinish will suck, but the end result is soooo awesome based on past projects we've done.

I bought pine board and sweet talked the Home Depot lumber kid into a zillion free cuts and had shelves cut to width and depth perfect for one wall, will use same stain as above, and that lumber was like $11, hardware was $7 or so.

Our nursery will definitely end up costing more than $100, but I try to go as cheap as I can!

We use foil to black out windows at my parents/inLaws. A super cheap option if you don't want to spend on black out curtains.

@locavore_mama: There are a lot of tutorials online on how to use iron-on hem tape to attach blackout fabric to curtains! I have a sewing machine but never learned how to use it so that's what I'm doing. I'd hoped not to have to use the blackout stuff but the room gets warm. So I got fabric and am attaching it to the back of a pair of $15 Ikea curtains!

You can also use clip rings to attach blackout panels, I really like the ones from Country Curtains.

Also: I've done some reading online about using chalk paint (specifically $$$ Annie Sloan brand or making your own using plaster of paris as an additive). No sanding required, you can paint right over stain, paint, poly, etc.

Not a second time Mama, but our nursery (AKA half of our bedroom) cost us somewhere on the order of $500 or so for everything:

$70 IKEA crib
$80 Sealy mattress
$40 mattress pad
$60 two sheets (one nice Giggle one, one cheap Target one)
$20 new throw blanket for when I'm nursing from IKEA

$20 IKEA rug
$20 IKEA wall storage
$30 wall art cannibalized from a Rifle Paper Co. calendar
$10 wall art from IKEA
$50 hanging globe from PBK (this was our splurge)
$90 frames for the art and mobile supplies from Michael's
$10 bins to organize cloth diapers on clearance at Target

That's it. Without a crib, mattress, and sheets, on the list, we could have done it for $250.

The glider came from DH's grandma, a side table came from my aunt, and the dresser came from another aunt. We used one lamp that my MIL gifted us for our wedding and another from my mom that she used to have on her desk at work. We also have a small wire rack that we bought from Walmart about 4 years ago that we're using to put wipes, cream, etc. on. We don't have a changing table and plan on using a portable wipeable changing pad on the floor or bed for that. We're also reusing sheers that we bought for the living room in our old place and are using green curtains that my sister had in her apartment in college. They work really well in the room, and they were free.

I'm making a mobile for the one side of the room, and another aunt gave us another hand-me-down mobile for the crib. We were given a brand new, never used Angel care monitor (weren't going to use a monitor before), and we've also been gifted a humidified (that, we would have purchased had we not been gifted it). The rest of the pieces in the room (fan, clock, knick-knacks) came from other places in our house.

There are a few things I'd like to still get (a colorful throw pillow for the chair, a better second sheet, another mattress pad), and a few things I'd like to upgrade to (a better changing pad, new pads for the glider), but overall, I'm thrilled with how it is turning out. We spread out the purchases over a few months, and we've been able to put together a pretty sweet nursery without taking a major hit on the wallet.

The only thing we really have in her room is some prints that I downloaded for free and printed at wal-mart in cheap frames. Then I bought a frame for her monthly pictures.

We re-purposed my dresser, my sister bought the crib set, and IL's bought the crib. Super cheap, but pretty plain.

My mom still had my room at her house set up from when I was a kid, so I stole a lot of artwork and pictures from there.
