I posted a bit about this on my August 2015 postpartum thread but I wanted to get some more thoughts/opinions.
DS is 12 weeks. He got into a pretty good sleep groove for the last month or so - going with 1 or 2 wakeups during the night, naps a little hit or miss but at least one or two really good long naps (1.5-2+ hours) and some shorter ones.
Well, last Tuesday night, he was up MANY MANY times during the night. And then starting last Wednesday, he fought naps and when he would nap, would not sleep longer than 30 minutes. Unfortunately this has continued since then and I am about to go crazy. It's like someone flipped a switch, the change was so dramatic.
The days are awful - he fights and fights and usually cries hysterically until he finally falls asleep. He'll wake up after 30 (maybe 40 minutes), and he's ok for maybe 10-15 minutes. Then, he starts getting cranky and usually progresses to full on hysteria (he's clearly overtired). So all day he has these little catnaps and he's chronically overtired (also awake constantly at night so not getting good sleep).
I don't know what to do! This sounds like it could be the 4 month sleep regression, maybe a month early? Or a growth spurt/wonder week (although, would that affect sleep so drastically?). Sometimes after a short nap, I can rock him back to (very light) sleep and hold him to extend the nap another 15-20 mins, but I can't put him down or he will wake up immediately. And by the end of the day, he's a wreck - just crying and so unhappy all the time.
Any ideas/suggestions?! Should I take him to the doctor, is something wrong? (my gut says no) I am worried about him getting so little sleep!
