Can you guys remind me how long the 4 month sleep regression lasts? Third baby... you’d think I would remember this, but I’ve apparently blocked it from my memory. Fingers crossed the answer is like 2 weeks

@ChitownRo: if it's any consolation, we didn't even really have a bad sleep regression at 4 months. Some babes handle it better than others. Maybe like a week?

My first didn’t really have a regression. Ds2’s lasted about a month until he was back to normal (I considered normal waking once at 4am even though prior to the regression he was basically STTN).

You don't want to hear my answer. Lo did not sleep well again until about 11 months. But my daughter wasn't the norm, and we are hoping like crazy the little boy I'm cooking does better

We never had predictable sleep regressions. A bad night here or there? Absolutely. But nothing horrific like the stories I heard. Hopefully your LO won't go through it!

Ha! We are at 6 months and I'm basically giving up on getting our good sleep back. To be fair, she's been sick with a nasty cough/ cold and now ear infection, so maybe that's part of it.

I'm close to two months into the 4 month sleep regression and I think my eyes are about to bleed from lack of sleep. I never had this problem with my first girl. Good luck!

We had a terrible week or so of the regression and then she turned into a wonderful happy sleep for 12 hours baby since then and she’s 5.5 months! Hang in there!

Ours started at 3 months and lasted about a month and a half and it absolutely broke me. Like, medication was needed broke me. However, my daughter was the exception in my friend group and for everyone else it started later and only lasted a couple of weeks.

The regression itself will almost always be about 2 weeks. If it lasts significantly longer, it’s usually because bad habits were introduced during the regression. It’s ok to offer some comfort and soothing but you want to keep it as minimal as possible.
Sleep training prior to the regression really helps, so they have all the tools they need to help themselves through it.
We didn’t yet sleep train my older son before the 4mo regression. We did for my current 9mo. The difference was ENORMOUS. Much, much shorter and less intense for the 2nd than it was the 1st time around. I almost might not have even realized the 2nd was a regression if I wasn’t braced for it. It was just a few nights of 1-2 wake ups.
But for both we kept intervention at a minimum and tried to keep as much as we could status quo. No new crutches. So they both were relatively short lived.
If you KNOW that it’s a regression that will end in a couple of weeks, keep your eye on the prize and know that a week or two of bad sleep isn’t worth introducing new habits that you’re NOT ok with keeping.

For my first daughter who has always been a great sleeper, it was 2 weeks of slightly worse sleep. For my second daughter who has always been a terrible sleeper, it was 4-5 horrible months. She was a terrible sleeper as a newborn, then had a good patch from about 2.5-4 months, then it was AWFUL for a long time. Finally sleeping through the night more often than not, now at 11mo.

I think the deal with the 4 month regression is they wake up more, and if they don’t know how to fall asleep on their own (need to rock, have a soother/boob) things can get and stay bad.

We sleep trained when she went through it since she went from waking up once to 3 times during the regression. Only took like 3 days to sleep train and she’s been sleeping through the night ever since (she’s 9 mos now).
