Isaiah is pulling out clumps of his hair. Basically he only has the big poof at the top and has rubbed off the back.
I googled and found that it's normal for babies to lose hair within the first six months, but a friend who is black (I'm white) told me I'm not keeping his hair greased enough. I wash his hair once a week with California Baby and put Vaseline cream on the dry spots on his scalp.
Anyone have insight?

My parents used Coconut Oil on me when I was young. My brother and father still use it. It comes in a jar and you rub it in your hands before you apply it to the head and scalp.

I think you are washing too often? For my daughter we wash about twice a week and we use coconut oil after each wash and keep her hair well oiled... and she's mixed.
But yeah, most kids lose huge clumps of hair before six months.
I think most white parents who have black kids let their hair get too dry (just what I've observed).

I use coconut oil, I wouldn't use the Vaseline on his scalp. My LO lost her hair around that age and although it's grown back, she still has a slight ring around her head where you can see the hair hasn't is still shorter.

@Mrs. Jacks: you think once a week is too much? I've been rinsing it with water since I asked this question and then putting moisturizer in it and his curls look better already.

@Mrs. Polish: no, not at all! I though you said once a day. ( bad reading comprehension on my part). I think that's perfect. This time I year is so challenging! (we're struggling with ashy skin. I'm goin to have to experiment with a new moisturizing routine)
