For the last couple of weeks, our 5 month old has been having major sleep problems, including extended middle of the night wake-ups (awake for 1.5-2 hours and no amount of nursing, bouncing, or rocking, would allow us to put him back in his crib and actually have him stay asleep).
We made the decision to Ferber 2 nights ago. We simultaneously unswaddled him, and stopped using his pacifier. Bedtime is going great so far! There has been minimal crying. He's also woken up fewer times (twice instead of three times). For the first wake-up (around 11-12) I feed him, put him down awake, and he puts himself to sleep in 15-20 minutes with just a little fussing. The second wake-up is at 4am...and he will NOT go back to sleep. We ended up nursing/rocking him back to sleep around 6:30. Most of that time was spent with him laying wide awake in his crib.
He's going to bed around 7, so there's no way he's getting TOO much sleep. It works out to be about 8 hours of sleep between 7 and 4.
Does anyone have experience with this? Suggestions?
