My oldest DD just turned 5 and is getting more independent, which is great. But it's accompanied by her being very fearful. She's learned to ride her bike without training wheels this summer, swims fairly well on her own and doing a few short camps.
But every time she wants to practice something or do a little summer camp it seems like she's torn between fear and excitement and ends up in a huge tantrum. At first I just said fine it's too much, but she really wants to do the activity and ends up being more upset then and angry with herself if she misses out on something. So now we're at this point of her throwing a fit, me being curt with her and scolding, her pulling her act together and then having fun.
We've talked about her fears but it hasn't helped anything so far. Anyone had their kid go through this while they try to get confidence about an activity?
