What a great article on a new, more relevant approach to birth for women of our time!
I really hope more providers can get on board to provide better care to laboring moms & avoid more unnecessary cesareans/other interventions!

Interesting. I went in for a check up at 2 cm and was offered an epi and admission if I walked and progressed to 3 or 4 bc I had already been in a TON of pain and having contractions a whole day. But I refused and got the epi after another 24 hours at home. Honestly the pain felt almost the same at 8cm as it did at 2. And it still took a really long time. Idk if back labor is just different as that's all I had, but my gut says it should be a case by case thing instead of setting the number at 4 or 6, but I'm no doctor.. If this helps people, then that's great!

@googly-eyes: Totally agree on the case by case & I loved that there was quite a range of "progress" that she referenced! I'm really hoping this can become more widely practiced, it would help so many moms avoid unnecessary interventions & cesareans!

Yes! As gung-ho as I was about getting an epidural (and I had a good experience with it overall!) ..if I had had one early on I think I may have had a c-section. Or maybe they just would have broke my water and got things moving (it didn't break til pushing.) I don't know, but it's a little scary to think about. They were all surprised it took so long for me to end up back in the hospital, they thought I would be back by the next morning but I stayed home the whole night/day. I wonder how they would have treated me since I wasn't making that 1cm/hr progress but I sure was in pain. On the other hand, I'm grateful nothing happened to baby while I was at home debating if I was a wimp or the insane pain was the real thing! Lol

@googly-eyes: With my first they admitted me at 2cm (I knew nothing about being able to go home & wait it out) & immediately started pit & offered Stadol (despite me wanting to go natural) about 10 times before even leaving the room the first time. From there I had arom, internal monitoring, and ultimately an epi just in case for the cesarean I ended up having.
I definitely think how things could've gone different if I had gone home & waited it out... Especially now that I know about & plan homebirths! Lol
