I guess I should have joined this thread a while ago! We're heading into 12 months of ttc, but only heading into our 8th cycle (an early CP and average cycles of over 5 weeks make our waits in between cycles so long!)
We are ready to look into next steps to see if there is something that's preventing us from getting pregnant. We want to start with getting my husband tested. I'm not sure how to go about that... can my OB/GYN do the testing? Does my husband have to go to his GP? How do I even ask for it? What am I even asking for? Any experience would be totally appreciated!

@jocole: welcome! sorry you've been having trouble.
I wish I could help you but I've begun asking those same questions myself... We're starting month 10 now (cycle 11, I have short cycles), so in a couple more months we may start thinking about getting some testing done. Maybe someone else has some experience to share.

@jocole - You'll likely need a referral from a doctor to get a sperm analysis. I went to my OBGYN after 7 months of no luck, and she gave me a referral for the SA, and bloodwork for myself. His doctor can probably give him one too though.

I'm in the same boat as @Mrs.Someone: . I went to my OB and she suggested we get the hubby tested and get some bloodwork done for me.

I keep putting this off hoping that I get a BFP. If AF comes next week, I guess it's time for me to call the doctor too. It's good to see that it doesn't look like a big deal. Maybe that means we can get in before the end of the year since we've both met our deductibles for 2012.

@Mrs.Someone: Thanks for the info. Now I know what I can ask for instead of just looking awkwardly at the doctor and asking if she can check my husbands sperm . Ha!

Yep, I'm with @Alivoo01 & @Mrs.Someone. I went to my dr and she suggested bloodwork for me. We put off SA because we have no infertility coverage and she could put the bloodwork under a different diagnostic code since I was not ovulating. We'll do the SA after this cycle if the clomid doesn't work.

@jetsa: Oh, interesting. I should take a look at our insurance coverage. I'm actually starting a new job on Monday and that will also include an insurance switch. Sheesh! This process just gets more and more interesting, doesn't it.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@jocole: yes it does. My husband has great insurance but still doesn't have infertility coverage. I'm *hoping* the bloodtests are coded right because the first set of those was $750 and now I'm waiting on my insurances to decide what to pay and in the meantime I've had 2 more bloodtest sets

We got our BFP a smidge after six months but about a month before that, I saw my OBGYN because I was concerned that it hadn't happened yet at the time. She was nice enough to tell me that if I wanted to, she could refer me to an RE but I wasn't ready for it quite yet. She did have a lot of bloodwork done on me and they came back normal. The suggestion of an RE referral was a nice surprise for me because I'm not 35 yet and I thought that's usually when they suggest seeing a specialist.
In contrast, I asked DH to see a doctor to see about getting a sperm analysis but he was told that they don't do that until after we had been trying for a year. Same hospital. Go figure. I guess it really just depends on the doctor you're dealing with, but I would highly suggest being proactive because some doctors suggest waiting and not everyone wants to do that, especially if you've been actively TTC - charting, temping, OPKs, O-focused BD, all the works - and no success after six months.

I got my blood-drawn again this morning so this should tell me whether or not I ovulated on the clomid...too bad my doctors office is so slow and AF will probably arrive before the call me. =(
How's everyone else doing?
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@jetsa: How do we verify the bloodwork tests are coded correctly to have insurance cover them? I just got the bill for my bloodwork and my insurance didn't cover any of it!! (O_O)
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@Alivoo01: I do not know. My doctor told me originally she could code it as irregular periods and that should be covered by insurance. This is what I am afraid of!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@jetsa: Thanks, I'll have to inquire with my OB then... This will suck major if insurance doesn't cover it!!!!! AHHHH!

My FSH test is back from the beginning of my cycle (11/16 they are so slow!) and everything looks perfect, really really hoping this means I'll get my BFP this month. I did not have my hopes up because its been so long and I refuse to think that Clomid is a miracle drug but this is great news!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@jetsa: Yay for things looking fantastic for you!!! Hoping you get your BFP soon!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
The doctors office called back already! The clomid worked I ovulated so now I am officially in the TWW. This is soo nervewracking but its nice to know I'm still in!
@Alivoo01: I asked about coding of the tests and she said I would have to call the billing office and that the nurse couldn't tell me. =(
clementine / 854 posts
@jetsa: that is great news! Hope you have more good news in about 2 weeks
pomelo / 5041 posts
@alivoo01: it has to do with how your provider codes the visit at the time that you had it. So if your provider marks that he's seeing you for infertility - not covered; if he marks he's seeing you for irregular periods - covered. I don't think there's anyway to go back and redo the way it was submitted, but it's worth checking with your OB's office just in case.

Ack I'm totally freaking out about all of my bloodwork now! I thought I read somewhere in my policy that all bloodwork was covered, but what if it isn't!! How long did it take to get your bill? Oh well.
@jetsa: yay for ovulating!!!!
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@marionberry: oh man!! There's no way to reverse it?! Eeeeek!! I'll still inquire, but OMG!! Noooooo.
@Shutterbug: I got my bill in like 2-3 weeks after my bloodwork was submitted?
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@Alivoo01: ok, i think I'm in the clear then... it's been 6 weeks or so
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@Shutterbug: @Alivoo01: my insurance is really slow I just got a bill for X-rays I had done 8/22. I thought all were this way but idk. The nurse I talked to acted as if billing dept. could change it.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@marionberry: yes this is exactly how my midwife explained it and why she said she could run it under irregular periods.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@Shutterbug: lucky!!
@jetsa: oh man!! I'm guessing this means my OB ran it as infertility. Hopefully when I go see her in a couple weeks, she can re-code it and have insurance cover it!!! *fingers crossed*
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@Alivoo01: I know if they code it as no insurance they can re-run it so I assume this would be the same. Also I got an unofficial bill from the hospital 2-3 weeks after but it clearly stated not to pay because insurance hasn't looked at it yet. I hope your OB can resolve this for you!

Hey y'all I don't think I've posted in here, but DH and I are in month 8 (almost 9) of TTC with one m/c. I'm having a really rough night tonight. I've got baby rabies BAD and I think DH is tired pf hearing about it lol. Just wanted to wish you all a whole truck load of baby dust!!
blogger / wonderful cherry / 21628 posts
@MrsTiz: I have nights like that too. It completely sucks! Do you have someone irl you can talk to about it other than your DH?
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@Leialou: nope! Everyone close to us (family wise) knows we are TTC but I couldn't talk to them about it. Just DH and HB!
clementine / 854 posts
@MrsTiz: Sorry you had a rough night. I have those too. It sucks. I have some people IRL to talk to , but I don't want to become that girl that only talks about her baby-making troubles.

Just popping in to say hi. I'm currently in the December POAS thread & have been following along on here as well. I just started cycle 10 this week and we are hoping for O around the 18th. I will start temping tomorrow & will be doing OPK's for this first time this month. This is the first time we are really buckling down and trying to pin point O. Just charting CM hasn't been working and there is a chance I haven't even been O-ing.

Hello ladies. I just wanted to stop by and see how everyone was doing.
@MrsTiz: Welcome! Sorry you're having a hard time right now. I know how you feel about not being able to talk to anyone about this. It sucks having to keep it all inside sometimes. My hubs doesn't really want to hear about it either.
@Sugar.Biscuit: Welcome to you, and good luck! I'm thinking it might be time to start temping as well...
I started cycle number 12 yesterday and now my hubs is saying he wants to take a real break from ttc. Yesterday was pretty hard because I felt like I had lost my last chance for a while... Sometimes it feels like I will never be a mother.
Good news is that hubs has gone on a diet and started taking some supplements, so who knows. Maybe that is what we need to get this show on the road.
wonderful olive / 19353 posts
@MrsTiz: I can commiserate on that feeling! Only 2 people knew we were TTC and neither of them were in the phase ready to TTC so they didn't understand the struggles I was going through. HB was my sanity for every down moment I had and kept me going. I'm available if you want to chat or just want an ear to vent to!!

Thank you guys, seriously. @futuremama: @Alivoo01: @alayaya: I don't know what i'd do without HB!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
and I'm pretty sure I'm out. I haven't tested but all the signs are there that AF is on her way and early she's not due until Sunday....so onto next month.
@MrsTiz: Good Luck and baby dust to you also!
@alayaya: Its a hard thing isn't it, just never getting pregnant. I've hit the point of is this every going to work and its no fun.
kiwi / 629 posts
@jetsa: SO hard! I honestly had no idea before this whole thing started just how hard it would be. At first we didn't want it to happen too soon so we had time to enjoy the process, but now I'm over it. This is really no fun at all. So sorry you're not feeling so positive. Remember you're not out until AF shows.
For months I've been wanting to read Bringing up Bebe, but I haven't picked it up at the bookstore because I've been worried about jinxing myself. Well yesterday I thought to myself "Enough is enough!" and I bought it! Hopefully I'll have time to read it after Christmas before I go back to work. I have a whole extra week off.
Have you guys put off doing or buying anything baby or pregnancy related for fear of "jinxing" yourself?
pomelo / 5041 posts
@alayaya: We did in the beginning, but then we figured screw it. We'd rather get some things paid for now so that there's less to buy later. It could have jinxed us given that we're on our 10th cycle trying now...but honestly I think that's a lot more our mild male infertility and my formerly LEEP'd cervix..per our RE. Oh and I've been reading all sorts of baby books. Just picked up two last weekend.

Just popping in to see how everyone is doing!
I FINALLY got AF again after not having one since August. M/C in October and then ten weeks after that I'm finally starting to feel normal again. I never thought I would actually WANT AF lol!
I decided that if this isn't our month, i'm going to start charting/temping/okp's, etc. I think 9 months of letting my body do it's own thing is not working in our favor. Crazy to think that if we had gotten pregnant the first month, I'd be having a baby this month!
