It was a thankfully somewhat shortlived phase for us. Unfortunately it hit right around Christmas when everyone wanted to see her. It was probably lasted about a month. I still tried to hand her off to people but if she got really upset I'd come get her. I just tried to make sure she had lots of things she enjoyed when someone else was around her and that I was interacting with them too before I left. But honestly I think it was just time that made her get over it.

my almost 9 month old has pretty bad separation anxiety as well. it takes a loooong time for him to warm up to anybody, if he does at all. honestly, i can't stand the thought that he doesn't feel safe so if he freaks out i immediately respond.

i'm sure some people think it's better for lo to get used to not being with mommy but they're still little babies and they KNOW mommy is going to keep them safe. personally, i just try to enjoy the extra snuggles. it won't be long when they don't want us to hold them at all.

as for the bathroom issues, i've definitely taken lo to the bathroom with me and just let him play with his bath toys while i take care of business!

The intense separation anxiety only lasted about a month here. It's hard though. I read that if you leave the room, you acknowledge it with them, rather than just disappearing, and it helps them learn that you are going and coming back. Sometimes that backfired on me, but overall it helped my kids. Little routines helped too, like if I needed to go put one to sleep, I always did the same thing with the other - jumper, sippy, kiss on the head and I'll be right back. And I just started taking them to the bathroom, kitchen, etc with me and putting them at my feet. And eventually it passed. At 10 months they'll easily be handed off to people they barely know unless they are really hungry or tired.
