You can take the cost per year for those items and divide by 12. then say you dont buy diapers/do landscaping it rolls over to the next month

We do something similar as previous posters. Our budget is broken into 4 main categories: Fixed monthly, variable monthly, irregular, and one-time/big expenses.

The monthly items are paid through our main account, the one-time/big expenses paid through our savings account, and irregular expenses are paid from a sinking fund (separate checking account): http://www.daveramsey.com/blog/stop-the-panic-sinking-fund

In other words, for the irregular expenses, we estimate the yearly cost and divide by 12. We add up all that, and set up an automatic transfer with that total # from the main account to the sinking fund, monthly. So, according to the pic below, we transferred $242 monthly into our sinking account, for that year.

I like Capital One 360 for setting up and monitoring multiple individual checking accounts. We have ones for car registration/repair, car insurance, Christmas, life insurance, travel and home improvement. We do 1/12 monthly deposits.

@snowjewelz: No, I don't have a debit card for each account. I wonder if you could request one. The other thing is it sets accounts up as one checking and multiple savings accounts so there is a few days delay to transfer back to another bank. However, you can access with atm card at any point.
