I think it would be cool to have a "like" button on here. Sometimes i just want to give a high 5 to what someone said without having to actually reply to them and say that. Would this be possible, or am I just lazy and should reply anyway?

While I agree with you that sometimes I REALLY want a like button. I do think it would cut down on the number of comments and therefore be bad for the site and keeping things lively and active.

I have to agree with @MamaMoose. It makes me sad when people like instead of comment on facebook. I always want more details, I want to know why they like something, and comments just make me so much happier.

I think sometimes a like button is good. I agree that it can reduce conversation but not always

I sort of consider the little heart/favorite button a "like" button. I've clicked it when I didn't really have anything to add but liked the thread, or wanted to 'save' the thread for future reference.

@prettylizy: Yikes! I am also LOL'ing at the same time. I hope I didn't come off that way. Sometimes people post great answers, and I feel like I have nothing else to add. I just want them to know that I like what they said.

Hi there, @BKCaribBaby: !
Someone posted a similar suggestion here... I shared some of my thoughts there as well:

If we can figure out some of this stuff, we'd be open to building a like feature!

@artbee: I can sometimes understand why people prefer to "like" rather than comment on a post. I once congratulated someone on a baby post, and i kept getting notifications every time someone commented after me! I think this was before they had the "unfollow post" option but i didn't really care to be notified 40x that other people said congrats.

@prettylizy: Is that the Pine Sol lady in a drawn form?! Hahaha.
I agree with other PPs that a like button may take away from commenting. I do know there are times I want to go like a post and still comment though.

@BKCaribBaby: I meant that all in good fun- I hope it didn't come off as mean-- mostly because sometimes you don't know how to respond to a dying text conversation and a like would seal things up nicely! lol!
@BabyBear: I THINK IT IS!!!

@prettylizy: No, not at all! That's why I was laughing. The joys of modern technology, right?!

@mrbee: Thanks, Mr. Bee! That was informative. I guess maybe I should just reply ditto. I'm only at the cherry level after all.

i think some kind of acknowledgement button such as a like would be good. sometimes people post things that people read, but no one bothers to comment. I think a like feature would encourage people to acknowledge at least, even if they don't want to take the time to comment.

hmmm interesting thoughts here!! I love the idea of it too but I totally get what mamamoose and artbee are saying

@caffeinated: I just find the like so much more impersonal, especially for things like a congrats. It is annoying that you have to see all of the other comments, but I think it's nice to put the effort of putting actual words down. Especially in a world where nobody sends snail mail cards anymore. To avoid that instead of replying on someone's comment/thread I will just write a separate post on their wall. I didn't even know you could unfollow!

@artbee: Good point! For birthdays i'll usually send them a private message (obviously for good friends i would not go the FB route). Yes, i was happy when i could click "unfollow" and not be inundated with comments!
