I am iffy this month. I typically ovulate CD15, and the only BD we got in during FW was CD11, 15, 16, and 17. DH and I work in separate cities, and while we have seen each other almost every day for the last 3 weeks, CD12-14 just couldn't work. Bad timing! I have heard BD 1-2 days before ovulation is the best, but how likely is a BFP on ovulation day?
Estimated O Date: 12/5
POAS/AF date: 12/18
Cycle: 8
Chart: I quit charting last month. I am frustrated it is taking this long, and I have ovulated CD 15 every time (except 14 once), so didn't see as much benefit.
Trying new this cycle: preseed on ovulation day.
What do you want for the holidays besides a BFP: I am interviewing for a new job- I want an offer!

@littlek: thanks - you are so sweet!! I think I'm going to test on Saturday (12/14), which will be 15 dpo.

@littlek: I'm due to ovulate right around tomorrow or Saturday, so if we get KU this month I'm so claiming it was conceived on Friday the 13th!

So, I know only the first smiley counts, and I can stop testing after that. I get it. I thought it would be neat to try to pinpoint how long my surge is by keep testing. I got another smiley this morning 24hrs after the first one yesterday morning, and another one this evening. So it's been almost 40hrs since my first one, and that's 3 smileys! Is it safe to say I haven't ovulated yet?

Experienced bees- I bought the clear blue digital ovulation testers. I am on day 5 of my cycle. I average 26 day cycles. When do I start testing. Assuming I use fmu and test??? Help a newbie out!!
AF is due Jan 4 th..... Which means I could still be testing this month! Te he.
grapefruit / 4770 posts
@littlek: gah, today is cd 20. What a wonky cycle considering AF is due in 8-9 days. Probably is not our month.
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@MrsScottish: it should have directions and on the directions it tells you what day to start testing based on the length of your cycle
clementine / 838 posts
It says depending on your cycle length. The box stays day 6 for a 26 day cycle. But I have also read online for other brands not to start till day 8. Curious as to why there is a difference?!?

@dc yoga bee: I have always read that the *initial* surge of LH is what causes the dominant follicle to finish maturing and release the egg within 12-36 hours of that initial surge. The fact that LH may stay elevated in some cycles does not change the effect or timing of ovulation vis-a-vis the initial LH surge.
Anecdotally I've read people suppose they may have released two eggs when they had several days of very high LH, but I haven't seen scientific evidence for that.
I am a science nerd and love data so I started charting 15 cycles ago (including using OPKs to pinpoint O) to get to know my cycle and make sure I was actually Oing, even though we had no intention of actually TTC until last month. In about half of my cycles I got positive OPKs at least 2, sometimes 3 days in a row, but my temp surge always indicated O had taken place the day after the first positive OPK. Hope that's helpful!

@stratosphere: thank you!!
The opk turned negative this morning thankfully! But, I had sooo much cm this morning! TMI... It's like I orgasmed in my sleep, but I know I did not because I had. Nightmare I was held hostage at gunpoint. Not sexy! Should we have sex one.more.time today for good measure? We had sex the first day of the positive, the next day, and today is 3rd day.

@dc yoga bee: you can but my guess is you have already ovulated so not much point
grapefruit / 4770 posts
@littlek: yeah last night was still a smiley and this morning wasnt so i totally think i o'ed at this point!

@T.H.O.U.: thanks!!!! I feel better, and like its more official. But,last month we bd on positive opk day and day after and no bfp. I hate how good timing doesnt guarantee anything.

@dc yoga bee: We've BD 5 days in a row, covering pre-O, O and post-O and I'm not pregnant. There's only a 20% chance of getting pregnant in any given month, assuming you timed BD right.
GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts
@dc yoga bee: Yeah, good timing is just a base requirement. Then there are a million other things that have to go right.

Okay, update: I heard from my MW's office at 6:00 AM (???) - bloodwork is negative. Same really faint line on the Wondfo this morning. So. That's a no. Even though it's still early, I know I am out. And that's okay. I let myself get really worked up this cycle - which was kind of fun - even though I *know* I O'ed from my blocked side. But I learned two really important things:
(1) I need a new batch of Wondfos. I TTC'ed for 12+ months and never once got an evap. Three in a row is a product defect.
(2) I am ready to have another baby.
And PLEASE no one feel sorry for me for this . Only being able to get KU every other cycle is a reality of my TTC experience. It sucks, but it's just a fact. Next cycle is when the real magic starts - HSG at the end of this month, O from the right side... Woo Hoo!
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
@septca: Since you said not to be sorry... I'm excited for your next cycle when you ovulate from the AWESOME side and you will get a

One more thing... In my opinion, there is only one month a year where the sting of a is alleviated a little bit by this very important silver lining:
You get to drink over the holidays! And you get to avoid those knowing glances/awkward questions when you don't drink over the holidays!
(I *know* this is small consolation when you have been trying for a long time and don't care about what you have to give up to have a baby (trust me, I have been there), but I need to look for the positives every month or I start going crazy.)

There's a bunch of people POAS today... any update ladies???? I know we are all POAS addicts....
**hello my name is K and I like to POAS... come join the circle of trust

@septca: oh, wondfos. they drove me crazy last cycle (though I never really believed them, it just annoyed me) because I got several evaps like yours. mine were not every day, some tests seemed to work correctly and some not.
I think I will keep using wondfos but there are so many defective ones out there, my plan going forward is to just use them when I need to POAS early and not put too much stock in the result!
good luck with the HSG cycle coming up!!
GOLD / pomegranate / 3688 posts
@bhbee: Exactly. And now that I know what they look like, I will not be fooled again! A can be really faint the first time, but it should get significantly darker every day if your betas are doubling correctly. By the second day of that same darn line, I knew I was looking at a defect.
pear / 1974 posts
@LindsayInNY: @dc yoga bee: if it was just as simple as following a recipe to get pregnant that would be amazing! It's SO frustrating that you can do EVERYTHING right and still only have 1 in 5 chance of actually getting pregnant. TTC sucks!
GOLD / squash / 13576 posts
Has anyone had issues with wondfo OPK being defective? I'm still shocked I got positive OPK at cd6 and cd7 and then positive digital at cd14 and cd15.
nectarine / 2932 posts
@littlek: I've only ever had good luck with wondfo OPKs. I always get a temp jump a day or two after a positive.
As for me, AF is due today or tomorrow and I was going to test this morning, but then my temp dropped even more..so I didn't. I won't be POAS this cycle.
grapefruit / 4703 posts
@septca: delurking to say that I think Wondfo's quality control has gotten a little iffy lately. I used them with no weird evaps or false positives for a year, and then I got a new batch and basically all of them have had some shadow of something. I've also heard it a bunch of times on here recently. I ended up throwing my whole batch in the trash. Yay to drinking over the holidays!
pineapple / 12234 posts
@septca: just wanted to jump in to give you positive thoughts for next cycle! BUT, I want to add my wondfo's didn't get darker until I was 19-20 dpo and they were STILL faint then. Ugh. I probably would have thought it was an evap or a faulty batch of tests if I hadn't tested with a FRER.

@septca: Just curious, what is blocked? A tube? I was told that even though I only have one tube I could get pregnant from both ovaries.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
@dc yoga bee: One thing I have heard in SMEP is that you want to try to make sure there are plenty of swimmers there waiting and ready for the egg to be released during O. So just DTD on O and after O might not be enough.
