How flat is your yard? We have good friends that recently got one for quarantine entertainment. So far it’s been a big headache to get it setup, they filled it and it wasn’t level enough so they had the drain it all, do something with foundation posts, now they are starting to learn about chemicals. I think it’s been a lot more expensive all in (and more work) than they expected but they’re hoping it will be easier once that’s all done and be worth it for kid fun.

We are the opposite in my house Following along because I'm hopeful we can get a pool next spring. I know it depends on your COL but I would like to know the rough estimates you receive, if you're comfortable.

@bhbee: This x1 million. We panic-bought an Intex Prism pool in April when DH realized they were all being snapped up by retailers and prices were increasing astronomically. We spent SO MANY HOURS leveling a spot in our yard to put it in; we are level to about .5 - .75 inch. We did a lot of research (after our purchase, ha) and realized that having it out of level by even 2 inches can cause the walls to weaken and collapse more easily. My town Facebook resale page has a pool listed at least every other day that someone bought and realized they could not get it in a level spot in their yard without an immense amount of work, so they've given up!

@catgirl: You are smart to leave it to professionals. We almost got an inground pool this year, but chickened out because we were looking at a gunnite pool, which is really hard to fill/remove if you change your mind, or decide to get rid of it because you're selling your house. We might have had something like a Doughboy put semi-inground this year, but you literally cannot buy one in my area right now (NJ suburb of NYC) because those are easier to have removed if you change your mind. Getting our Intex pool set up was a pain, but it's been pretty easy to maintain once it's up. We upgraded our filter system so we could run a saltwater pool, and hardly ever have to add chemicals - so the effort/expense there is very little. We have a lot of trees, but surprisingly it's not too bad keeping the pool clean. DH has a hand vacuum and an automatic vacuum that we run every few days to get out debris. Our kids adore the pool, and I'm glad we did it, even though I was a big nay sayer to begin with, and I kind of hated life for a few weeks during the setup.
