Got off the phone with the ped and sounds like LO has acid reflux. Any advice? All he wants to do is feed, suck on the paci, and never take a nap unless he's held.
I heard you can give a baby OTC meds, but not sure how? I do have some Tums.

LO had reflux when she was little, it was pretty awful. She would cry for hours We got a prescription from the doctor. It also helped a lot not to lay her down right after she ate. I still wait a half hour to let her go on her tummy or back. Luckily she seems to have grown out of it though.

LO had reflux for the first 3 or 4 months of his life. It was so hard to watch him fuss so much. He didn't cry much but he did fuss a alot. We gave him some prescription reflux meds (Zantac) and it helped a little but not completely. The ped said it's just something he would have to outgrow, which he did at around 4 or 5 months. The helped the most was holding him up 30 minutes after feeding, making sure to get a burp out after milk, and letting him nap at a slight incline. We used the Nap Nanny and this was probably the best purchase we made for dealing with his reflux. MUCH happier baby after using the Nap Nanny.

Our doctor told us to give the LO OTC Maalox. We did that for a few months and then the LO outgrew the reflux.

@banana: we have a boppy but he doesn't seem to really love sitting up on it. do you think the napnanny is more elevated than a regular boppy?
was the zantax you got OTC? if so, how much and how often did your LO take it.

@Clementine: i don't remember the exact amount anymore but i remember putting it into a little syringe and squirting it into her mouth. i would check with your doctor to see if he/she recommends maalox first, though, and then they can tell you the amount. i only gave it to her at night after her last feeding.

@clementine: Our LO hated the boppy too. But he really liked the Nap Nanny. I think because it's super soft and at a nice comfortable incline? I don't know but he really liked it! Thank goodness cause I bought it for $120. We actually used it even after he outgrew his reflux. He loved sitting on it and watching me do chores.
The zantac we got was prescription but it may have been similar dosage to the OTC stuff. The ped calculated the dosage based on his weight and age. She actually used a calculator and we'd visit her every month so I think it depends on each baby's stage. All i remember was that it was a very exact dosage (like 1.25 tsps twice a day at 1 month and then 1.75 tsps twice a day at 2 months). Something to that effect.
