I was surprised to read in my pregnancy books that you are not supposed to use over the counter spot treatments with salicylic acid while pregnant. Did you adhere to this? If you used an alternative, what did you use and would you recommend it?

I used tea tree oil. Not as good as the other stuff but I didn't want to risk it.

My OB ok'd benzyol peroxide, but I only use it a handful of times bc I didn't feel comfortable. I got a prescription for clindamycin from my derm, but honestly nothing really helped--my acne was completely pregnancy related and cleared up as soon as LO was born!

I used occasional benzyol peroxide and occasional salicylic acid (although I did switch to a face wash that didn't contain either). My doctor ok-d all of them for topical, occasional use. She said "are you eating it? no? ok then."

I used bliv products. blivskin.com haven't had a problem.
I love their off with those heads... no more whiteheads or blackheads for me.

Well that's a new one to me. Now I'm all paranoid considering I've been slathering it all over my face dealing with pregnancy acne!

I used proactiv, I checked with my ob and she said that she used it throughout her pregnancies and as long as I wasn't eating it,
It should be fine! Proactiv is benzoyl peroxide and was very effective for me.

My OB said to stay away from SA so I've just been using cleansers without.

I used occasional benzoyl peroxide, but otherwise just a mild cleanser and tea tree oil or witch hazel.

I tried using things that didn't contain SA or BP - which left me with pretty much nothing that worked unfortunately. I had HORRIBLE facial and back acne throughout my whole pregnancy. I'd never suffered from it before and it cleared up shortly after he was born. Really sucked for 9 months though

My doctor said benzoyl peroxide was fine and I used it in the first trimester when my skin broke out terribly.

@runnerd: talk to your doctor about it. Mine said its fine and the levels you would have to have in your system to cause any damage are so high you would have to be eating it.

I used a spot treatment from Belli. Their products are supposed to be pregnancy safe and the treatment was pretty effective for me!

My doctor said it was absolutely fine (the words she used were "fear mongering"), and said topical spot treatment use isn't near enough use to enter your blood stream and cause concern.

I used belli skin care acne spot treatment and would highly recommend it. It actually worked better than the SA treatments I used pre pregnancy.
