Hellobee Boards

I'm keeping the sleep sacks until next summer probably, because my LO will need one in the winter. I think with loveys,, it takes a while to catch on. My LO loves her A&A lovey blankets now but it took her about 2 months to get into it. For those two months we started by putting the blankets in bed with me and DH for a few nights, so it would smell like us. Then I started giving it to her during every feeding (not sure what you would do now with no bottles---maybe during a book before nap/bedtime?

Then I would put her in the crib with it, and which point she would usually toss it away. But at some point, a few weeks later, the association with sleep just clicked and now she clutches it tightly all night and wakes up with it in her hand.

Could it be the consistency of the fabric? Or perhaps the texture? And this may sound like sacrilege but is there a too-small or stained sleep sack that you wouldn't be torn up turning into a lovey? You could probably make two goodly sized loveys or four smaller ones if you were so inclined. Just my two cents. I encourage loveys but I don't push them. They either love it or they don't and if they love it, I always try to make it accessible so they feel secure. Maybe sleep sacks convey security to your LO.

Eta: You could cut a large swaddle blanket in half, use binding from a fabric store and make your own security blankets. I did that for the kids and they both use them still. Every nap and bedtime plus just around the house. I have them doubled (the blanket half folded in half and sewn shut then use binding to give it a finished look). I think its the perfect consistency. Thicker than the store bought security blankets from A+A

You could try something like the A&A Dream blanket as it's much thicker than the security blankets and probably more similar to her sleep sacks. The only problem is that it's big so not as portable as a typical lovey.
