Since we moved overseas, our kids have been co-sleeping with us more! Usually my son will fall asleep in our bed, and then I'll carry him over to his own bed. But sometimes I pass out too, and then he's in there until the morning!
I figure that it's unusual circumstances, so I'm ok with it for now (my son is six). But when do you think should be the age cutoff for co-sleeping?

Maybe high school? I'm sure I'm not thinking it through at all. But in Japan I think it's common that family members sleep in the same room on futon whatever the age. It's getting less common I suppose nowadays.

I had a similar experience, after a long distance move, my son began cosleeping and he hasn't moved out yet, he's 5. We're working on it though, because it's time.

@gracecat: Ha! So it's not totally weird that as a teen when Dad was out of town my Mom and I would flop on their giant bed and watch a movie and just both sleep there.
But for regular cosleeeping, I can't imagine a child older than young grade school. They'd take up too much room!

I'm not sure there are any "rules" about this. We aren't a co-sleeping family by choice, as we all tend to sleep best in our individual beds.
As a teacher, it once came up in a team meeting with the school psychologist that a 13-year-old student still co-slept and it was a concern. So I would say maybe co-sleeping past elementary school might be too long?

My niece didn't move into her own bed until high school 
her dad slept in another room. That would not be an ideal scenario for me, but to each their own I suppose.

@MrsSRS: I always slept in my parents room with my mom when my dad was out of town on a business trip. Ha!
Regular, ongoing co sleeping at any age is not for our family.
My 3 year old is in a queen bed now so if she's having a rough night one of us will sleep in there with her.

Whenever it becomes problematic for one or both of the parents? We've never co-slept with LO because we feel like our bed is for us...it's where we wind down at the end of the day and read/chat before we go to sleep. But I know there are parents who both enjoy having their LO in their bed, so whatever floats your boat. I can see it becoming problematic where one parent isn't into it and starts resenting the other parent, sleeping in another room because of it, etc.

It is not something I plan on doing. But I do remember sleeping with my parents when I didn't feel good or if my dad was traveling and I just wanted my mom for some reason. I was still pretty young, but it was never something my family was encouraging of. I just think everyone sleeps better with their own space, but to each their own!
