Well, I just read every single name on this thread off with DH and these are the only ones he remotely liked:

    Willa
    Sylvia
    Beatrice
    Florence
    Camille
    Sloane
    Clementine

Can you see why this is turning out to be hard?! Sheesh.

Oof, your DH is one tough cookie. Out of that list, is there any that you love too??

Girl names I really like -
    - Sloane
    - Arden
    - Gabrielle
    - Naomi
    - Vivian
    - Cadence
    - Kate

@Mrs. High Heels: I don't love love any one of them. If I had to choose off of it, I do like Willa, Sylvia and Sloane the best. I actually suggested Arden to him last week and he said no. I like Vivian but a good friend called dibs. Kate is my sister.

Sylvia was one of our "finalists". and the song with Sylvia from Dirty Dancing? That's my username. Lol

    Geneva
    Adeline
    Estelle
    Audra
    Thea
    Claudia

Sorcha is a favorite of mine, but I like it better pronounced how it's spelled rather than the Irish pronunciation

    DD2 will be Aria Winter

  8. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@loveisstrange: Yes! That song. It actually works out with our kids, because it's the name of an author (both of our kids have names belonging to authors) and both of our kids have gotten their names from some form of media - and DH first heard the name via Dirty Dancing. So in that way, I guess it does "work" with our kids' names.

Also, Geneva was totally going to be DD1's name until my cousin named her daughter Genevieve before we had M. (She was due 3 weeks before us.) And I adore Adeline but just had a cousin name her daughter Aveline.

    @iheartleopardprint: That's beautiful.

  10. loveisstrange

@coopsmama: I think that since its been several years, Geneva and Genevieve are dissimilar enough that you could get away with it. Of course, you could also fly your nerd flag and name her Ginevra (hey, it's from a book!)

@coopsmama: is he the type of person where a name may take a little time, or are his no's definitely no's?

    I like Camille!

  12. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@Happygal: I'm thinking his no's are definitely no's. He asked me to make a list this time and I told him I had and that he shot them all down and he was like "oh." Hahaha. I am realizing how stinking lucky we were with our first two - we just both really liked their names and we never had to go so far into a name search at all. I wish he would be willing to entertain some of my ideas but I think unless he really likes them he's going to just say no.

  13. Happygal

    pomelo / 5000 posts

@coopsmama: sometimes my husband will shrug and pause, and that gives me hope! But I know when he definitely doesn't like a name b/c he'll wrinkle his nose, make fun of it, etc. I thought picking a name would be a sweet process, but I learned it is not so for the two of us!

Would you pronounce Camille as Cah-mill or Cah-meel?

  14. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@Happygal: He said it like "Cah-meel."

    Fiona
    Freya

    @coopsmama: what about Sylvie?

  18. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@Rainbow Sprinkles: He said that's what he wants to use as her nickname but he doesn't like it as a full name with our last name since they both end in the "ee" sound. Thoughts on that? I do really like Sylvie. I think I could meet him there happily.

  19. Rainbow Sprinkles

    eggplant / 11287 posts

@coopsmama: I think it sounds fine with your last name! And would be super cute all together once you add a middle name in there. I like that Sylvie has spunk lime M's name.

  20. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@Rainbow Sprinkles: I do like that aspect as well. I asked DH last night what he would name DD2 off of his list and he said 100% Sylvia nn Sylvie. I definitely think it's his favorite. I like the middle name Jane with it which balances the spunk I think (and DD1 has a J middle name) - I really like family names and my mom always wished her name was Jane or that she had named a daughter Jane so I feel like that would be an honor for my mom even though it's not a family name in the traditional sense. Hmmmm.

I have a friend with a little girl Spencer, which I think is really cute!

  22. avivoca

@coopsmama: I love Sylvie Jane, but I also adore Sydney Jane (I'm biased though since my cousin named her daughter that).

  23. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@avivoca: DH is unwilling to put on her birth certificate just Sylvie but he says he would call her Sylvie so I guess it's the same thing. I would guess it's our top contender right now. (Another positive thing - MIL is Janell so Jane is the start of her name.) I think I can get on board with Sylvie Jane completely. Maybe, just maybe, we've hit the name?!

    Sylvie is cute!

I thought of another name that hasn't been mentioned in this thread. Thought I'd throw it out there bc you never know

Scarlet - also great for what will surely be red hair!

@coopsmama: if sylvie Jane isn't right maybe read the baby naming wizard? It categorizes names by style and if you can determine your husbands style, maybe you can find one you like!

This thread has made me realize that if I had to name another girl I would have to start the moment I became pregnant. Good thing we're done.

    I will suggest:
    Hadley (my LO)
    Harper
    Dawson
    Karolina

  31. coopsmama

    cantaloupe / 6059 posts

@T.H.O.U.: @LibbyLou: We've officially decided that her name will indeed by Sylvia ("Sylvie" - DH won't name her what he considers a nickname, probably because my name is technically a nickname) Jane. But he is already only calling her Sylvie so I expect it to be more of a what's-on-her-birth-certificate thing than her actual name. I basically just looked at his list and told him my top two off of it (some were completely NO go's) and told him he could choose! He said he really wanted her to be Sylvia so I chose the middle name. The kids really love the name, too, it seems, so I'm glad we chose it. DH seems super thrilled he got to be the one to choose the name this go around, too.

@T.H.O.U.: I hope you guys can come to a consensus soon. It is so hard when one person almost refuses to consider anything but what they want. And it's even worse when they refuse to consider any of your ideas BUT don't come up with any of their own. I am looking forward to hearing what you name your baby girl!

@JennyD: YES. It is so difficult. Girl names are just tough for us for some reason. We probably won't be done after this baby and I am already nervous that we will have another girl name to choose. And fwiw, I really love Hadley. What a great choice. My sister has mentioned that as a top choice for a potential future daughter some day, otherwise I would have had that on my list.

Sylvia and Sylvie are both lovely names, great choice. FWIW, I think they are two completely separate names though and I don't think of Sylvie as a nickname for Sylvia, kind of like how Sophie and Sophia are two distinct names.
