Since BBC has confirmed that Matt Smith will be stepping down as the Doctor in the near future, who do you want to be Doctor number 12?
Also, how do you feel about the whole Matt Smith stepping down bit?

@Penny Lane: He grew on me as time went on but he isn't my fave. I still love Tennant. DH loves Eccleston.

it was a close fight between smith and tennant. I'm definitely the odd one out among my tennant loving friends
I am very curious to know who they'll pick as the next doctor!!

Tennant is my Docor Matt Smith did an awesome job. I think there's some drama behind the scenes because originally Smith said he was back for season 8. Plus Moffat said he's out too. Hmmm... no thoughts on 12 yet. Still in denial.

I'm actually a bit sad he's stepping down because I just got used to him, lol.
I'm crazy about David but I really loved Chris as well. I have huge lady boners for both of them...
As for who 12 will be...I have no idea who I'd want to play him, and can't hazard a guess on who they might choose, and I think I like it that way (for now, anyway, at least until the idea of Matt stepping down sets in).

Yep, another Tennant fan here. I actually JUST started watching the Matt Smith seasons because it took me that long to get done pouting that David Tennant left.
Although, Matt Smith it growing on me. lol. I do like him. I hadn't heard that he was leaving!

I'm so sad Matt Smith is leaving - I LOVE him! Tennant will always be my favorite, though. I'm interested to see who they chose next...I've ended up loving all three of them so far, though, so I doubt I'll be disappointed.

I was reading up on some speculation, Jamie Dornan gets my vote. Yum.
But seriously, there is a TON of people who think the next doctor will be female. I think Olivia Colman would do a good job. She's HILARIOUS.

@Penny Lane: I *think* @katsupgirl: meant that Moffat confirmed that Matt Smith was leaving, not that Moffat was leaving also. But I'm not sure. Don't quote me on that
@zippylef: Did you see the odds they've been taking on who it will be?
pineapple / 12526 posts
@NaturallyCathy: I was looking at an article from the Telegraph, but yeah, I saw the odds. I really hope it's not Rupert Grint... I like him but... I cant see him as the Doctor.

I'm sad about Matt Smith leaving but with Amy and Rory and River gone, maybe it's time for a new doctor.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Mrs. Superhero: That's kind of where I am with it too. I mean, for a while it seemed like it was really 'The Amy Pond' show starring the Doctor but I'm ready for it to get back to being about the Doctor again.

@zippylef: I literally had to look up about ninety percent of those names on the list - I need to see more British television apparently!
pineapple / 12526 posts
@NaturallyCathy: I only know them because I live here! Olivia Colman is on a few of the shows we watch. I had to look up a lot of the others too. lol. I was a little baffled by the suggestion of Helen Mirren.

I really do love all 3 for different reasons. Tennant is my Doctor crush though haha.
I have no idea who will be 12 at all!! I'm so dang excited for the 50th!! AAHHH!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@zippylef: Yeah, me too. Not someone who would have even come up on my radar. There were also odds on it being Tom Cruise and Stephen Fry. Stephen Fry as the Doctor would kill me, I'd be laughing so hard.
clementine / 957 posts
@NaturallyCathy: Tom Cruise?! That'd be a terrible choice Ahh!
I'd be curious to see a woman 12th.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@wahine08: I have mixed emotions on that. Since there were female Time Lords (Ramona comes to mind, 4th Doctor) and we know that the Time Lords did procreate (the cradle, references to the Doctor's children, the very first companion to the Doctor being his granddaughter) - it sorta makes me think that the whole sex situation is rather set. You're born a male, you regenerate as male. I know it's probably possible to invent some sort of way to bypass that but I mean, River always regenerated as female. The Doctor has always regenerated as male - we even see the last 'Doctor', who is male, in the season finale.
I think it would be a stretch.

@NaturallyCathy: @Penny Lane: There's a rumor that season 8 will be Moffat's last. It's all a bit sketchy because Smith did an interview saying he was coming back for season 8. I think him not returning is news to him as well. I only know this cause my friend is super obsessed with him. She's devastated. Also, grab your 11th doctor merchandise now it's selling out already.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@katsupgirl: Eh, I'll pass. I liked him but I didn't like him like him. He grew on me but it wasn't until this last season that I felt he really understood what being the Doctor was. For a while, it seemed like he was the companion to the Ponds, not vice versa.
clementine / 957 posts
@NaturallyCathy: I didn't think about it that way! Makes a lot of sense. It'd be difficult to switch gears for me and become accustomed to a female doctor since the Doctor's personality traits always seem to be very "male" haha.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@wahine08: Me too. But if they could write a convincing enough line, I might be able to buy into it. Probably not, but might. I try to keep an open mind just because a part of me doesn't want it to end.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@NaturallyCathy: Except didnt one of the doctors make a comment about regenerating as a woman? Am I making that up?
nectarine / 2280 posts
@NaturallyCathy: LOL! I'm not going to get anything either. I'm really not into having a female doctor that's waaay too much for me to get used to.
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@zippylef: To the best of my knowledge, never happened. But don't quote me on that!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@katsupgirl: For me it would be like James Bond having a sex change. Too much!
pineapple / 12526 posts
@katsupgirl: @NaturallyCathy: Haha, I definitely dont think I'd be into a female doctor either. As long as whoever they cast is funny and good-looking, Im a happy lady! rofl

I'm not so sure about having a female doctor either. I think I'd prefer to have him stay a male. And I really want another younger guy with crazy hair! haha. I don't know what I'd do if he ended up being an older guy, although I know all the other ones were older. I just like 'em young and energetic and crazy!
I was JUST starting to like Matt too. He finally started growing on me after re-watching his seasons. Boo! I'm super stoked for the 50th though. I hope it's as epic as they are making it out to be.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@abbydabbydoodlebug: Me too! Can't wait to see David Tennant and Billie Piper make an appearance!!!
GOLD / wonderful pea / 17697 posts
@NaturallyCathy: @zippylef: Apparently there was a Timelord called the Corsair who could change genders, but I'm not sure if that's something that all Time Lords (and Ladies) can do, or if it was just something special the Corsair could do.
I'm not sure how I'd feel about a female Doctor, personally, mostly because if they do it I feel like it'd be done just for the sake of having a woman--kind of gimmicky. I think it will be more likely that we'll get a non-white Doctor first (which I think also has the potential to end up gimmicky). However, given the recent allegations of racism that have been thrown at the BBC and Doctor Who (which I'm not sure I agree with--admittedly all of the Doctors have been white males but the companions have been well-mixed, I think) I wouldn't be shocked if they did go for a non-white actor.

I watched starting with Eccleston and liked Tennant but I LOVED Smith. I just. Cannot. Even. Process. My first reaction was "NO ONE WILL EVER BE GOOD ENOUGH!"
@NaturallyCathy: okay, Stephan Fry could make me happy again Thank you for giving me hope!
@zippylef: i don't remember a Doctor saying he could regenerate as female, but the Doctor does always lie.

@zippylef: when ten first appeared didn't he say something about still being a guy but not ginger?
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@Mrs. Superhero: WE NEED A GINGER!
ETA: I vote for Alan Tudyk.

He was awesome in Firefly

@Mrs. Superhero: I think that might be what im thinking about?
nectarine / 2667 posts
@NaturallyCathy: You know, Benedict Cumberbatch is a ginger. I doubt they'd pick him, but I do like listening to him talk.
ETA: And Alan Tudyk just left Suburbagtory - he's available!! You are really making me feel a lot better about this!
GOLD / grapefruit / 4555 posts
@mewtill: No, I didn't know that! A natural ginger? Wow. I guess I'm partial to red hair since DH is auburn in color (red brown but very red) and DD is a carrot top!
