My LO is two and does well in her crib at home. When we are away she refuses to sleep in her travel crib and we end up just putting a mattress on the floor or she sleeps in a bed and does fine. I'm due in January and do not want to buy a second crib. Everyone says to transition her to her new bed before the baby comes so she doesn't feel like the baby is stealing her crib. We moved her to her own room/crib when she was two months and plan to do the same with the baby, if no sooner. I was thinking about moving her to a bed at the end of August when we get back from vacation and before she starts school in September...is this crazy? Should I wait until November/December to do this?

This is pretty much my plan, give or take a few months. Since she already does well in a bed while traveling companion I would think transitioning her when you get back from a trip would be perfect. And I do want to have a few months between switching to the bed and the new baby being born so she doesn't have to deal with so many transitions at once.
I say go for it- and let me know how it goes since I'll be doing t soon too

Not crazy at all. Transitioned DD1 to a bed at 15 months in preparation for DD2's arrival. Transition could not have gone smoother. She had been sleeping on a cot at daycare for months.

@Foodnerd81: @NeekieRose: Thank you! My husband feels like since she isn't climbing out the crib, we should keep her contained as long as possible. I also work in a school and am off for the summer, so I would love to make the transition while we are not working/going to day-care. I'll let you know how it goes! She is very into picking out "big girl" bed stuff, so hopefully that's a good sign.

my LO is 2 years and 8 months, we moving next week and his crib days will be over then. planning to put him straight in a queen size mattress on the floor (as we already have a spare one). so i don't think it's crazy. our next LO is due in Feb. and we want to transition him sooner and thought when we move into a new place would be a good time.

We moved LO1 at 22 months and it went great, she loved it!

Not crazy at all. DS has been sleeping in a bed bed for a year now? He's 2. We did co-sleep for a bit, but the crib was just too small for him. He's a heavy roller so he'd bump up against the crib railings pretty hard and it woke him up. He sleeps much better in a bed. We just have to make sure he doesn't roll off.

I transitioned my DS to a bed at 18 months. It went pretty smoothly. He had be sleeping on a cot at daycare for a couple months beforehand, so I'm sure that helped.

I think she sounds like she will do fine and it sounds like a good timeline! We made the switch at 2.5, but I know many do before then.
