Which one(s) did/do you have? Are you planning to get your DD one as well?
I had Samantha 1904 and Addy 1864. If I have a daughter I plan to create one that looks like her, My American Girl.

Two Samantha's and an Addy to give to my niece. I love American Girl and need a daughter to share them with.

I have Samantha and a personalized one. I decided that red hair and brown eyes was the most beautiful combination ever so it definitely looks nothing like me.
I also put up on Facebook that I was sad they were discontinuing Felicity so DH got me her for Christmas a few years ago.
If LO is a girl, she will definitely have an American Girl doll. I love them!

You know, I never heard of American Girl before I moved to GA!
Probably won't get my daughter one unless she asks for it?

I had Samantha! I begged for it so much and my mom said if I could save up enough for half, she would pay for the other half. I was in elementary school and I saved up enough and more to cover the accessory set. I was so proud and worked so hard to earn her, I rarely played with her! I saved her for my daughter and I will make the same deal with LMW if she wants another one.

I didn't have one, and I have taken DD to the American Girl store and asked her if she wants one, and so far she doesn't seem interested (4yr)! I think it's cute that you can bring them to eat lunch at the cafe and get their hair styled at the "salon"...

I had a bitty baby that I loved! I am getting DD one for her 1st birthday. I will get her a look a like American Girl when she gets older.

They are so cute but so effing expensive!!! I wish I could do that one day but good lord... I love seeing other little girls with them though! If I could I would get one that either looked like her or let her pick one out.

I never had one! I remember going to a friend's house once and she had several dolls, with clothes, a bed, a desk and a wardrobe. I was so jealous! If I have a daughter, I think I'll get her one once she's old enough to take care of it. I don't want to spend that kind of money on a doll if she's going to cut it's hair or try to paint it.

I had Kirsten and one who looked like me and the just a plain blonde one. I loved them! For sure I will get one for my daughter and get the American girl magazine for her.

I had Kirsten! I always wanted Samantha too, she had the prettiest bedroom set.

I didn't know about them as a kid. I had cabbage patch kids.

I had Molly because she looked like me and wore glasses like me. I think my mom would buy one for a future daughter (no kids yet) b/c she lives near an AG store and she is always commenting on how many new ones there are. However, I begged for a second doll when I was a kid and there is no way she was buying ME another one!

I had Samantha, Kirsten, and Felicity. I always regretted taking Kirsten's hair out of the braids..
I think mine are still in pretty good shape, so DD can have those and maybe a couple more..
Btw, I'm sad they discontinued so many of the historical dolls.. Stupid Matel. Haha.

Samantha! Still have her, actually. She's tucked away in a box in the closet, poor thing! I need a little girl!
Oh Pleasant Company, how you tormented me with your catalogs! I loved the books, too.
persimmon / 1331 posts
@Honeybear: Oh the catalogs! They were torture! I wanted EVERYTHING! Even the baby dolls at the end... I don't remember what they were called though.

I wasn't into them when I was young. But, if dd loves them, then I'd get her one.

I didn't have one as a child. They were way too expensive, but I wanted Felicity so bad it hurt. I had a good friend who had them all and a couple doubles and I was beyond jealous. The last trip I took to NYC was 4 years ago around Christmas and it seemed there were American Doll bags everywhere. I kept talking about how badly I always wanted a Felicity doll and for Christmas, my friend surprised me with one. It was one of the sweetest gifts ever.

@Mrs. B: ah, yes. Bitty Babies! haha, I wanted them too! Even as a little girl I wanted to be a mommy!

I had (well, have) Kirsten and will pass her down to my LO.
I actually already bought LO Marisol (and her dress trunk and tons of stuff, eek!) because LO's heritage is part latina, but I won't give her the doll for many years.
They are so expensive, so I want to wait to give her the dolls for when she can really appreciate them.
Did anyone see this article?

i have mixed feelings about these dolls...honestly, they creep me out a little and they are so outrageously expensive! but, i know i would have loved a doll that looked like me when i was little....so...i'm not sure, if our future daughter really wants one, maybe as a really, really special birthday present?

I had Samantha and all her furniture and accessories. I took good care of everything so it currently resides in my daughter's nursery! We'd get her another one day but I'm glad I have the original because I think pleasant co was much better quality than Mattel.

I had Samantha and all the books from the 4 original dolls. I would absolutely get one for any future daughter but I like the idea of making one that actually looks like the girls.

I never heard of them until I was a teenager (I don't think these were popular in Canada?). I think their marketing is GENIUS but I don't know if I would spend that much on a doll.
pomelo / 5178 posts
I always thought these were an East Coast/Southern thing? Nobody I knew growing up had these dolls. Maybe everyone was just too poor, lol. DD is not really into dolls right now, but I guess if she really wanted one we might it for her.

I have Kirsten & Felicity. They used photos of my granny's barn for their first catalog (1988?) and I got Kirsten around that time. No DD so not sure where they'll end up.

I never owned them as a kid because my parents couldn't afford them, but they are really neat.

I read allllll the books and loved AG but my mom absolutely refused to buy me a doll because they were so outrageously expensive. Yet now, my LO shares a name with one of the dolls and mum is already talking about how she'll buy her one!

My parents couldn't afford them, but I read every single book and must have paged through the catalog a thousand times!

Oh I LOVED these as a little girl. Most of the dolls my nana bought us, but I think my parents bought us a couple. I have Kiersten, Samantha, Felicity, Molly and the baby - and so many accessories and clothes. Thankfully all of my stuff is packed away at my parents so that when we have a little girl we can give them to her. Those along with my Madame Alexander dolls were my favorite - but I always wanted to keep them so nice. Original boxes, never took out their hair, etc. craziness! I didn't realize they were getting rid of the historical dolls - I'm so glad I kept mine now!

I always wanted one so bad, but my parents were too frugal to buy me such an expensive doll! Looking back, I don't blame them... but one day if I have a girl, I'd love to get her one. I hope it's something she should treasure, and treat as special, versus abusing it!
