When your LO's umbilical cord fell off, what was it like underneath, was it dry or was it moist and gooey? after our pedi visit yesterday, I can see that the umbilical cord is very loose and only hanging on by a little bit of skin underneath. The bely button looks whitish and kinda moist. Is this how your LO's was? Did you put anything on it after the stump fell off?

LO's was moist and gooey and totally creeped me out. But after a couple of days it dried up perfectly fine.

It was moist and little gooey. We didn't put anything on it, that yuckiness went away after a day or two.
The stump fell off while DH was changing her diaper and I found it the next day on the kitchen table. He wanted to save it for her baby book. I vetoed that!

It was moist and gooey. We just got a alcohol pad and wiped it up.

Moist and gooey. I also used alcohol to clean it up and then it quickly ended up drying up and healing well.

@banana: Did you use the alcohol directly on the belly button or just around it? -
It was a little gooey but it would also bleed a little bit. Just a few drops though. That went on for about a week, the ped said it was completely normal though.

@mrs.bells: I got a small alcohol pad (those individual wrapped ones) and gently wiped around it (not directly on it). Just enough to get some of the goo/crusts off the outer part of the belly button. This is what my ped recommended.

@Mrs. Stroller: haha yeah I'm kinda grossed out by how it looks underneath. who knew belly buttons were so complicated. I always thought when the cord fell off it would be perfectly healed underneath

@Mrsbells: hers was moist and gooey and bled for a few days. I actually put a little breast milk on it to help heal it faster....l that stuff really is liquid gold!
