OMG!

Reuters is reporting that it was shot down.

Can't believe this! Not a good year for the airline, but all those poor passengers and crew

Holy crap. This is big. Ukraine is saying separatists shot it down. It did happen near Donetsk which is basically the center of fighting between Russia and Ukraine. Ukraine has reported military planes have been shot down there recently. If this was some sort of an accident (definitely possible) it would be one hell of a place for it to happen.

ETA: I don't know who decided it was a good idea for a commercial flight to travel through this airspace...

So sad.

I was reading about this on Twitter, and a word to the wise, don't read about this on Twitter... apparently the plane blew up in the air and there are photos of debris that can't be unseen

This is horrible... ugh.

This makes me not want to fly anywhere... so tragic and sad.

@snowjewelz: I completely agree, so sad. I had never heard of this before the first Malaysian plane disappeared but apparently the US did this like 25 years ago, shot down a passenger plane

No. Just no. It's like human life isn't worth anything any more.

I read another crazy theory. That a Ukrainian air force plane mistook this one for the Russian air force one, which was passing through around the same time.

But I suppose we might never find out who did it.

I heard on the news that it wasn't an accident. Ukrain, the separatists and Russia are blaming each other. It is unknown who fired the missile. The flight was from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, so many Dutch people on board and maybe one or two Belgians (our foreign affairs minister can't confirm this yet).
Horrible.

Pro-Russian separatist fighters have shot down multiple Ukrainian fighter jets this month with portable land to air missiles – including one just yesterday. I think if they are responsible, the situation in Russia and the Ukraine is going to blow up in a very bad, big way.

I guess apparently the plane's path is a common one; although now all the airlines are saying they will avoid that space. I read that the FAA had already told US carriers not to fly there several months ago.

This news has been on my mind all day. It is horribly sad. Those poor people.
