What do I put on these shelves? They're at both ends...I dont have that many cookbooks! Can I put nice potwear (neatly) like my Le Creuset (I have Caribbean blue stuff)...Or are you supposed to put non-cookwear items here? *These are not mine- I dont have a whole set! Just some randoms!

i think books mixed with cookware.. ever some pictures. don't have it too full.. and do a mix of books up right and lying on their side!

Or decorate it like a bookshelf..so framed pictures, (they have some at Target with plastic fronts instead of glass for H), books, little figurines, etc. You don't have to fill it with books, just use books to accessorize.

My parents put their coffee mugs on theirs, but I think they have shallower shelves. Now that my nephew is at their house a lot though, they started storing cans there, since he was breaking mugs. Not the most attractive solution, but certainly functional!

I love the idea of kitchen things for H too, a tea set could be cute, Pottery Barn Kids usually has some pretty options. Maybe a pretty tea kettle (real one), a champagne bucket (if you have one), wooden cutting board propped against the back or a cute stove top espresso maker-- they are all potentially pretty kitchen items that are pretty baby friendly.
I love the Le Creuset and I think that would look awesome there, I would be careful about the weight though, the lid to my stock pot could easily break baby toes if dropped.
It doesn't help with a mobile baby but this option is cute from BowerPowerblog.com.

LOL i think in about 5 years, you will be able to put your pots there. For now, I would put unbreakable things on there like others suggested. Definitely some kitchen toys or maybe metal mixing bowls, spatulas and wooden spoons she can play with?

I would mix other decor elements with the cookbooks/books
I would add a wire basket with fruit, or other food storage canisters (they sell nice ones at ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90227985/) filled with things like quinoa, granola, chocolate chips etc (I would say no flour since H will soon be getting into stuff!)

I would put lots of play cookware and other stuff on there. We have friends that have a shelf devoted to their LOs in the kitchen, so they can get into things.

@PrincessBaby: What about little snacks for H. We made our daughter a little snack shelf in the pantry with healthy snacks she can go get when she's hungry (based on a Montessori recommendation here)

I vote for something for H also. We have some "safe" cabinets for J and he is so preoccupied with those that he stays out of the ones we don't want him in.

I posted some pictures but the links didn't do what I wanted them to do... so I deleted them. I'm so not tech. It mirrored what others had posted. A few books or nic naks but if you have a little one around make sure they are kid friendly. Otherwise putting on some glass doors would give it a nice look as well.

for the shelves that H can reach, maybe you can use pretty storage tins/baskets/boxes etc with tight fitting lids and store random less used kitchen stuff in it. so even if she pulls them off the shelf they are still contained and she can't get into it gorgeous kitchen!!
