I deal with this - I'm on medication to help now, but before I was on a prescription my doctor had me take a B6 when I felt the motions of it coming on. Also - have a hot bath or shower, and read a book or something to calm your mind. Deep breathing is a big thing, too, because you need to control that to get control of your mind and heart back.

@babycanuck: I am doing all said above except for b6, it is just weird and the worst I've ever had it, I'm taking little things turning them into big things, over thinking and well I could go on and on and on...lol

@FaithFertility: I can honestly say I know exactly how you feel. I've been there too many time before. Keep doing your breathing and call someone to help talk you through it. Take your mind down a notch and get you thinking of something else.

I have suffered from anxiety most of my life. I was on meds for almost 2 years, and have been off for 1.5 years but still struggle. Winter is the worst for me, unknown situations and when I don't have contact with DH.
I worked with a therapist for about 6 months and she taught me some breathing excesses that really help but honestly the best thing I have found is exercise or if I can't do that cleaning!!
My mind still gets the best of me, I over think, think worst case, but have learned over time to find away to talk my self down most times.
I am sorry you are dealing with this. I hope that you can find some ways to help! Know that you are not alone!

I used to get pretty anxious under stress, but I learned some breathing exercises and relaxation techniques and got it under control!

I get anxiety every so often. I've never seen anyone about it except my mom and my husband. Although my mom is the best one to talk me down from hyperventilation. A walk outside in the cool air is next best. A glass of red wine is next best after that. Sleep always helps. And prayers and reliance upon my faith tops all. Good luck, lady. Breathe and know that you can handle more than you think.

Definitely! I've always been an anxious person. One technique that really helps release tension in the body is going from toes to head and progressively tensing muscles and then releasing. I can't recall exactly what it's called, but it's very effective. To start, tense your feet, then increase the tension as much as possible, hold that for a few breaths and then release. Proceed up the body, breathing deeply. Worked amazingly for me!

Bumping to see if anyone else has words of wisdom ... I've had a few sleepless nights lately (usually sleep like a rock) due to various worries totally running away with me. I picked up some Unisom but would rather keep that as a last resort.

@Mrs. Yoyo: I almost posted to your wall, but I realized that lots and lots of people have anxiety and that it might be friendlier to share where everyone can see.
Look up alternate nostril breathing. For some reason, this particular breathing technique is like taking a tranquilizer for me. No matter how amped up I am, it will settle me to a more manageable level. Sometimes I need to do it more than once; so I will do it once, I'll still feel pretty anxious after stopping, so I will do it again-- that sort of thing.
If you do yoga, there's this one lady on YouTube, YogaCandi, and her voice is seriously soothing. I save her practices sometimes for days when I'm feeling anxious or stressed out and it's hard to listen to the frantic voices in my brain if I'm a) moving my body in a way that forces me to concentrate, and b) listening to a voice that sounds like maybe a female version of Mr. Rogers and doesn't seem like it could exist in a world where any of the things I'm worrying about would ever happen.
Meditation Minis podcast. This lady is a hypnotist (no, really!) and she sort of sounds like one. There are all sorts of themes and some of them specifically address things like getting back to sleep or dealing with anxiety. In addition to the meditation part she will often offer practical tips (there's a link between magnesium deficiency and anxiety, so taking a magnesium supplement can sometimes help). I don't really prefer the ads (distracting) or the fact that she will sometimes promote paid programs that she does, but the main content is really solid (fast forward? that's what I usually do).
Clearly I have anxiety issues, but at least I have coping tools, too??

@Mrs. Yoyo: I use rescue remedy when I feel like my panic attacks might be coming back. It's an herbal remedy you can grab it at sprouts or likely any more natural store. It just helps take the edge off for me and let's me focus on something else
4-7-8 breathing also really helps me relax
And as mentioned above yoga and meditation help greatly

@MamaBear87: Every time I try the 4-7-8 breathing or any other technique where I have to breathe in for a set period of time, I always feel kinda weird and lightheaded. I'm probably doing it wrong ....
@Mrs. Twine: Hiya old pal! The nostril thing is intriguing, will have to give it a shot.

@Mrs. Yoyo: no that's pretty normal. It's a different way of breathing so your body isn't used to it. You should only be doing 4 sets of breath like that to start with.

@Mrs. Yoyo: The 4-7-8 method slows down your heart rate so maybe that’s why you feel lightheaded when you do it. That is usually my first thing to try when I feel super stressed and unable to sleep.
