I actually have a total black thumb, but I'm determined to learn from DH, who has an amazing green thumb, but never has time to do much work in the garden during the summer. But I positively love the planning and planting and the harvest and preserving. We're planning this year's garden, can't wait to try a few new techniques to try and coax a bountiful harvest out of this tough prairie sod!

This year will be my FIRST time gardening at all! I haven't a clue what we'll plant or even how we'll layout it out yet b/c we're waiting to move at the end of the month.
I'm so excited about growing our own nummies though!

I love gardening and have always grown a few little veggies in planters (lettuce, tomatoes, peas, etc). I think we'll definitely do it again this year. I wish I could plant a bigger garden in the back yard but I'm deathly afraid of worms

Me! I've got to scale back because Baby is coming a prime harvest time. But I'm planning on potatoes, peas, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, basil, thyme, oregano, peppers (hot and sweet), mint, lettuce, chives.
Sadly, there's about 3 ft of snow in the backyard that has to go first.

I'm so excited to try it and I think it would be a GREAT method for someone just getting started!
@MungBean: Worms aren't my favorite thing either, but they do make the ground so healthy, so I'll deal.
We have 15 acres, so space is not really an issue with us. It's the TIME to do it all! Besides a regular vegetable garden, which I think we're just going to plant the flowerbeds around the house full of veggies because I've seen really good results with that and no one ever drives by our house to see pretty flowers and landscaping anyways, besides that garden, we'll probably have at least an acre of squash, zucchini, sweet corn, and potatoes. Maybe 2.

@FarmWifeGina: Two acres of veggies? Wow, I grew up on a farm with 2 big vegetable gardens and we didn't even have that much. How many people are you feeding? Or do you sell at a farmer's market?

@Grace: No, DH is just crazy about growing stuff, that's all. And I mean crazy. It's go big or go home when it comes to his gardening.
I would love it if we had enough to take to a farmer's market though. The 2 acres will mainly be big plants though- squash and so on, stuff that's viney and spreads and takes up a lot of space. And the potatoes, we do sell a 5-gallon pail here and there, but most of the stuff we put in our cold cellar and keep to feed us through the winter.

@Grace: Yeah, we're set if we get snowed in, that's for sure, lol. With the squash, I'm SURE we'll be going to farmer's markets with those. Or DH will feed them to his chickens.

My mom is an incredible gardener! She really makes her yard so beautiful. Me on the other hand.... I'm a really great weeder. We planted a lil window box of catnip because its too cold outside and our cats knocked it down within an hour.
