We're looking for a new hammock stand. We had a metal one previously that rusted out. Does anyone have a wood one that they could tell me about? Are they easy to move, do they kill the grass, would you buy another? What do you like or dislike about them

We have a wooden one that DH made - it didn't really damage the grass, although the two weight-bearing legs put indents into the ground. But it's freaking heavy! It definitely takes both of us to move, and even then it's not easy - I probably wouldn't recommend one if you want to move it frequently.

@raspberries: He made it? Wow. Was it difficult? Most of the ones we see have curved wood and I would have no idea how to do that.

We have one and it just matted the grass it sat on. The biggest pain is probably storing it for the winter. We have a curved one and I'm able to move it around solo. But it is awkward to!

@JMOM: I don't think it was very difficult to make - it ended up looking something like this: http://www.herecomesthesunblog.net/2013/08/diy-hammock-stand.html, but I stained the wood to make it look a little better. Anyway, the main issue with moving it is that it's heavy enough to tear the grass up if you don't lift it all the way - I mean, the heaviness is good when you're in it, because it feels very sturdy, but man, it's a pain to move, haha.
