A has gotten that as reactions to new foods he's tried. The only time it lasted beyond a day was with fresh apple slices. So we stayed away from that for months, he doesn't get them with apples now.

I'd try to stay away from the wafer, I'm almost positive it's a reaction to that!

Be careful with the Neosporin. I can't remember all the details but my SIL used it for something on her daughter and it made it worse. Sorry I know that sounds vague! Maybe just ask the ped about when to use it. Hope she gets better soon!

LMW had that kind of reaction to pumpkin and squash!

@PrincessBaby: I would caution against the neosporin too. My MIL is a dermatologist, and she said that she doesn't recommend neosporin because more and more people are allergic.

I'm going to look up the ingredients, but I am rooting for cinnamon. It can contact "burn" skin, and it doesn't really hurt you, but it will leave a skin reaction like this around the mouth if it sits there. And I would say skip the neosporin. I wouldn't want to apply it close to the mouth.

Hmmm. So apparently no cinnamon. And I don't see any ingredients that raise a flag for me unless it is some type of allergic reaction. I'd say steer clear of them and probably let your pediatrician know. They might have some ideas of how you can safely identify which ingredient (if any) is causing the reaction. It is also possible that she just has some irritated skin there and the combination of saliva and food is causing it to look more irritated at snack time.

@PrincessBaby: I'm ith the others on no neosporin. My dermatologist told me that when you put neosporin on a rash it can make it worse.

We really like Motherlove nipple cream or something similar. It is safe for infants/people to ingest, and it provides a barrier against irritants while skin heals. I use it whenever the girls get a scratch or facial injury, or on chapped lips and skin in the winter. I'm probably way over-cautious about what gets close to their mouths and eyes, but there you have it.
