Any other natural blondes out there? I've never died my hair and in the summer it gets pretty light. But right about this time every year, I always think about adding some highlights. My hair is more of a dirty blonde. I think I might see some grays in there too, but my hair is so light it's hard to tell! I think I might actually pull the trigger this year and highlight.
Do you highlight?

Sounds like my hair is similar to yours and I've done it a few times in the winter when I'm missing the summer highlights...as long as I've told the stylist to keep it natural/no maintenance needed it's worked out well (I think they've called it hand painting or balayage?). I never felt like I had to do it again/grew out and it went back to sun highlights in the summer

I have naturally dirty blonde hair. I get regular highlights throughout the year. In the summer she tends to make them a bit lighter and in the winter warms them up. I just get partial done and occasionally get full highlights. Do it!

Yes! Highlights give my hair more dimension, makes it look less flat. This time of year I add some low lights to change it up.

I have dirty blonde hair with a lot of weird undertones. Depends on time of year; reddish, gold, blonde. In the winter I think it looks so blah and dead. I've asked several times about highlights but my stylist always tells me how much she loves my hair color and would never touch it with color. Huh??
I have really short hair so I don't know how highlights would work; I have to get my hair cut every 6-8 weeks so I can't imagine the cost. Ugh.

I'm a natural blonde but I'm red right now. I love playing with color. The only problem is because it is blonde it doesn't hold color for long.

Same here! I had really blonde hair as a kid and it started to darken in high school. I dyed it for a few years and then grew it out so it is a dirty blonde. I'm thinking of getting highlights again too, my hairdresser said she could put a certain kind of highlights in that would only require upkeep every 6 months or so.

Naturally blonde but I get highlights to keep it looking fresh-especially in the winter. I used to get low lights to give it dimension too.

I've never dyed my hair either and this time of year it is always blah. The most I've done is squirt some lemon juice in there but I don't know that it did anything. But I'm too scared to dye it now since it's usually a nice color besides the last months of winter.

I used to have platinum blonde hair, but it has darkened with age. I died my hair for the first time ever 2 years ago. I got partial highlights and I love it! Really freshens my hair up. I only get it done 3 times a year. My hair stylist said if I got it done more, it would be more obvious when it grows out.
@Littlebit7: you get get the highlights done every 2-3 cuts. That would help with the cost.

@Maysprout: I'm with you! I'm super nervous about messing anything up because I love my hair color from May - December! We're going away in April and it will lighten up then.

@mrskc: I would only want to do it a few times a year too. How long does it take to grow out? If I did it in December and March would that be enough?!

I was a tow head as a kid but now I'm a dirty blonde. I started to highlight in my late twenties, and I was very particular about it. I wanted a very natural "summer" look. I found a colorist who colored another natural blonde's hair and I liked his work.
I haven't highlighted my hair in over 3 years now, since I was pregnant with DS 1. I might do it again after DS 2 comes, but it's so darn expensive. Plus now that I live outside the city, I can't justify going back to my favorite colorist in SOHO. Not sure I want to trust someone new.

@winniebee: Dec and March would be good. you might even be able to get away with just doing it in January and that's it. My hair doesn't seem to really lighten in the summer (probably don't go out in the sun enough), so I get it done every 4 months all year.

I'm a natural blonde and I agree, in the summer I really like it but this time of year it's so blah and drab. I can't bring myself to pay for highlights though and I'm terrible at up keeping them so ill just hold off until summer and live vicariously through my DDs gorgeous blonde hair

Yes natural blond, I get partial highlights every 3 months or so. They're really natural, you can't tell at all when they are growing out. Just keeps things fresh! Basically it just makes my hair look like I've been out in the sun a lot in the winter

I used to be a natural blonde but my hair got darker after my first son and now it's more of a dirty light brown. 
I get highlights to lighten it and to cover my grays in the part. Also only get them 3 times a year max
