Does anyone else golf? I started last year and I'm not very good, but I really enjoy it! We got a membership to a par 3 course near our house and we've been out for 18 holes twice already this year

Oh god no. I tried it once because my husband is a HUGE fan of golfing. But I suck and it's just not my thing.
I'm glad you like it though! My husband and his brother call girls who like golfing like unicorns. They're few and far in between! haha.
He's going Monday to the practice round of the Masters to hopefully see his favorite golfer ever Phil Mickelson!

@regberadaisy: Haha, my husband is also a fanatic but I have no desire whatsoever to join him. He also loooooves Phil. And he's actually going to Scotland in not too long to play St. Andrews with his dad.

@Mrs. Yoyo:
NO WAY! Get out of town! That's on my husband's list, I hope to make it happen for him one day. We tried to fit Scotland in on our European honeymoon but it just didn't work out. But he did get to play at one of Ireland's oldest golf course.
And he played at TPC Sawgrass last summer when we were in FL for a family trip. Ha! He didn't even know TPC would be nearby I googled and told him!
He also really wants to play Pebble Beach. I'm thinking of surprising him for his 35th birthday. We'll see how finances work out since we're on the East Coast.

@Mrs. Yoyo: have you ever tried? You might be surprised! I didn't think I would like it.
@regberadaisy: Haha. Unicorns. That's awesome.

@regberadaisy: We were actually in Scotland a few years ago for a friend's wedding and he walked around the course but was so bummed he didn't get to play. So he's going with his dad this time for a father-son thing. Total bucket list thing. He tried to get me to go with, but ultimately the thought of entertaining a 9-month-old in Scotland while the boys golf all day was not worth it. He would also LOVE to play Pebble Beach, and I'm sure that will be what he tries to convince me of next. Ha. That and there's one in Oregon he is lusting after. We were in Pinehurst not too long ago. This is one expensive hobby.
@sslm: I actually haven't. I know, I know. I shouldn't knock it until I've tried it. But I'm also happy letting that be his thing.

I golf! About 5 yrs ago I took group lessons with some irldriensa and bought clubs...then started playing with DH. He's a big golfer (as are my dad and brothers) so we try to golf once a week during the summer. Im not very good but can keep up and dont embarass myself on the course. Not sure how often we will get out this summer with a newborn though.

@Mrs. Yoyo:
Good lord is it a expensive hobby!! His brother's in the Air Force so when they played TPC they were both able to get the military discount. So that helped. But it's so cute, whenever there's a commercial for The Players Championship he goes I played there! I stood there! I was IN that locker room! Hahha. He said he'll save his change for two years to play there again.
He also wants to play Bethpage which is a lot more feasible bc my family lives literally 15mins away!
P.S. aw a father son trip sounds awesome. His dad does golf but does it more for guy time than because he loves it. My husband and his brother like it way more than their dad.
@sslm:
He's been trying to get me to go again....I might have to soon to humor him. we went to the driving range last summer and he tried to teach me again. I swear my brain just shut down... Hehe

@winniebee: yay! Someone else! I wouldn't have started if it weren't for DH. He loves it so I thought I'd give it a shot, I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy it

Avid golfer and golf fan here! DH and I golf every week during golf season and plan our vacations around golf. But we are expecting very soon so we know that our golf days are coming to a screeching halt. But our plan is to join a club one day and introduce our girls to golf in a couple of years!

@sslm: hey! I also started last year and I love it! I can't wait to get out again and start playing, but it's been too cold -- we had one week I awesome weather and the driving range and courses were packed!
We also live near an 18-hole par 3 that I love, it was tr perfect place to learn, then I graduated to full sized courses.
Also, not great, but can hit straight and I love being outside all day!

I enjoy golfing but my husband does not. My parents are big golfers and I used to play when I would visit them. Now with a lo on the way, I think it will be a long time before I pick up my clubs again.

I'm a burgeoning golfer. I took lessons as a kid and used to play a lot with my dad, but as I got older and into dance and cheering, I dropped golf. When I started dating my husband, I tried to pick it up again but didn't really succeed. But now that we're married, we bought me a set of clubs and I'm trying to get back out there. My husband and his brothers host a big golf tournament every year, and I'm hoping that this year I'll actually be able to play. The past few years, I've been the official photographer.

I've always wanted to learn, but never got around to it!

@hellobeeboston: it's been unseasonably warm here and the courses opened super early. DH was so pumped to be golfing in March!
@mediagirl: That's partly why we got a membership this summer. Hopefully next summer there will be a baby and I won't be able to get out golfing!

Nope. People in our families golf, but not my husband or I. Occassionally, like once a year, he'll go out and golf with his dad or work buddies.

I'm a golfer! Not good, but usually go 2-4x a month during the season. Was wondering... can I golf during pregnancy?

@mrsjyw: I feel like golf is probably one of those things where you should go by whether or not it feels ok. I feel like your growing belly will start to make it unpleasant/unfeasible far before it would ever be a bad idea for health reasons (if that would ever happen, which I kind of doubt).
ETA: I actually imagine the riskiest thing about it would be if you go over the summer and risk getting overheated and dehydrated.
cantaloupe / 6397 posts
@birdieputt: I would love it if our future kids liked golfing!
@mrsjyw: I would think it's fine as long as your comfortable and it isn't super hot!

@MrsH:
Good to know! I guess my husband can start teaching our daughter when she's 3! hah

BTW he had SO much fun at the Masters today. He followed Phil around for 18.

My husband and I took up golf together. We're not very good but got a lot of practice while we were living abroad where we were able to play year round. We went to watch an open once but I found that to be really boring. The game is super frustrating but we do enjoy playing. I like that it's something we can do together for a long time.

My DH is absolutely mad for golf and has played 18 rounds so far this year, he's also about to spend a week golfing for work (!)
I sort of took up golf about six years ago but I haven't played for ages, it's an addictive sport but I get soooo frustrated when I don't play well.
We're expecting a baby in October and one of our criteria for a strolled is that it needs to be suitable for pushing round the golf course...
hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts
@Kemma: I agree golf is addictive!
It's amazing how you can be in the BEST mood when you play well and then in the WORST mood when you play like crap.

Yes! It is way too hard to go now with an LO, though. The last time I golfed was during our baby moon in Costa Rica. Amaaaaaazing golf course!!

I golf but I am not very good at it. But I have fun when DH and I go out so that is all that matters!
honeydew / 7235 posts
@sslm: finally got out yesterday to plan 9 - it was awesome but I was TERRIBLE! Yikes, gotta get to the driving range... Still so fun though
honeydew / 7235 posts
@Kemma: we are also due in October an we're wondering/joking about bring baby golfing? Figured it would never work due to the danger of stray balls headed to the babe, that, and I'm sure it would be frowned upon!
kiwi / 623 posts
I love it! I use to just tag along to the range with DH years ago and would hit a few balls. Then 2 years I went on the course for the first time and fell in LOVE! So much fun! I wish that golf carts had a seat where we could hook LO's carseat to so we can go!
pomelo / 5866 posts
I love par 3s because that's my attention span for golf. I haven't played for a few years since DH is not into it and LO came along. But yes, I really enjoy it, though I plateaued around 120.
cantaloupe / 6397 posts
So it's been a couple of months, and the golfing is going great! I even par a couple of holes now We're really enjoying having the membership, and typically get out for 18 every week!
@enjollah: We were just talking about how things will change when we have a baby, we won't be able to golf together as much anymore! So we're trying to get lots in this summer (hoping to have a baby by next summer!!!).
cantaloupe / 6730 posts
I love it. I'm terrible, but spending an afternoon outside amongst the trees etc., what's not to love?
persimmon / 1205 posts
Another golfer here! We try and play on Sunday's and it's a great thing that we do together as a couple. I haven't been able to play at all this season but am due soon so we are hoping to maybe get in some fall golfing. We talk about getting babysitters to go golfing together in the future and hope our little girl will want to go with us at some point.

my husband is great at it, i can't imagine playing right now with the heat + huge belly. i do like to play on a par 3 course, i'm not quite serious (or quick enough) for a country club or more challenging course.
pear / 1764 posts
I am not very good, but I'd love to get better! My husband tries to help, but he is a lefty & it's very hard for him to teach me since I'm a righty. I really should learn, we live on a country club with 3 courses & I am awful!
