@banana: I think I will continue working part-time indefinitely! We plan to have more children after this. The pay cut will make it so that we do have to sacrifice in the short term because I currently make double my husband's salary (he's a resident now). However, in 2 years, his salary will increase drastically so hopefully it won't be an issue then.

I wanted to go part time, but in the end, I couldn't make it work with my employer and our day care options.

For me, I'd still have had a decent pay out after day care costs and the reduction in my salary. I cut out a lot of material stuff while I was working so we could save for our house down payment, so I am used to living the "austere" life.

PT WAHM here. I used to work full time in the city as a marketing manager but after baby, I decided I wanted to be home and work, so I secured some consulting work that I could do from home, including some volunteering of the same kind of work, so I can be somewhat relevant when I go back full time.

@banana yes, it was a significant paycut since I went from salary to contract. Fortunately, my husband has a pretty stable job and we were comfortable becoming a one-income family, with my job bringing supplemental income to cover some necessities and majority of the baby needs. Initially when I started, i reached out to my contacts asking what they were working on and if they needed any consulting work to give me a call. I had a few folks respond and secured a few projects that way. And when things were slowing down and it was difficult to get anything, I'd volunteer doing various marketing related things while trying to secure more work. NPOs are always in need especially local affiliates. It was a huge change for me since asking for work was something I was not used to but it was a decision I do not regret. Hope this helps!

@banana: I'm not sure since we plan on having more kiddos. I'll try to find stuff where I can work from home at least some. We're moving soon too so it really depends on what opportunities I find but I won't take a job that requires regular 70+ hour workweeks anymore.

I'm a nurse. I love it but am home for now. When I return to work I plan to go part-time (2-3 days a week). Maybe even just per diem at first. I do think the ability to have a flexible schedule is one of the best perks of my field.

I was a full-time WOHM after #1 and while we adjusted to that kind of life pretty well, I was always wishing for more family time. I always thought that part-time work is a great way to try to balance family/work life.
