I want to replace the area rug in our living/family room but not sure what to look for. Our current rug was purchased pre-kids and was not made to withstand kid messiness. I bought it for looks only and did not do much research; turns out it is not super well made and sheds everywhere making our hardwood floors look dirty all the time. what type of material is durable enough for kids/high traffic area and won't shed too much?

Suggestions of where to look for good quality and affordable rugs also appreciated!
