So my family will be traveling to Japan later this year. We have a 1 year old and 4 year old. Japan's streets are not very stroller friendly, and therefore, I'm definitely bringing my Boba carrier. However, my 1 year old is 23 pounds. I was considering buying those hiking backpack carriers. They look very convenient. A popular brand I've seen on Amazon are Kelty. Anyone have any experience with them?

We have an Osprey Poco Plus and it's great! It's adjustable for different-sized torsos and is pretty comfortable.

We just bought a Deuter and it is great! It is also really comfortable for my daughter (8 months) and she loves it! The Osprey brand recommended above is also great. I would suggest going to a store where you can try them if possible. I was totally sold on the Osprey but when we tried them the Osprey straps were not comfortable for my husband or I (we are both broad). We picked the Deuter because the straps were more comfortable for us.

We have the one from deuter. We used it a lot just walking around town with my kids. Too bad it'll be too bulky to mail because we really don't need ours anymore.

You want a frame backpack? We have the Deuter II (bonus mini bear for LO) and highly recommend it for hiking and zoo/botanical garden trips! I second doing test drives w/ various brands/models.
We did pony up for the Toddler Tula for a week in San Diego recently because we did not want our frame to get bent or lug our stroller. The Tula was great for flexibility: easily stored in a daypack, easy to sit/stand on public transit w/ minimal intrusion, etc.

We have the Deuter II also. It was great for our cross country trip visiting national parks with the first one. Now it sits in the garage collecting dust but in excellent condition. I just looked at the weight limit on it and we probably won't get a chance to use it with number 3.

we've used an osprey and a deuter and really liked both. i have to say though, i wouldn't want to travel with it as it's huge!
we had a boba 3g and we wore our almost 22 lb 1 year old often. does your 1 year old walk at all to give you a break every now and again?

We have a Deuter and it is comfortable for both my husband and I to wear (he's 6'1 and I'm 5'4). We've traveled with it and it was really easy - the airline let us check it for free like a stroller.

We absolutely love our kelty frame carrier. My husband is really not into baby wearing (I think he finds it too unmanly or something silly like that), but he adores the kelty. We used it a ton when our daughter got big enough for it.

We have an Osprey and love it. DH uses it most of the time but I find it comfortable as well. They are pricey so we watched Craigslist for about a month until a "like new" one became available. I would try different ones out at the store and then buy used.
