Okay, so hopefully somebody somewhere understands insurance... maybe just a little? I will even take "two cents" in the matter!

Okay, so I recently found out that what I thought was my primary, and only, insurance isn't. Turns out that since I am under 26 I am still legally under my parents insurance (even though they no longer claim me and I am married) and since I was on that insurance first, it is my primary and my other insurance (DH's) is my secondary.

I am 27 weeks and have only been using his, which means we have been paying into our deductable for all my medical and OB care. (about $2000 at this point)

The good thing is that my, now, primary insurance is pretty amazing compared to my, now secondary. As in $400 deductable w/ $600 total OOP vs the $2500 deductable with $5000 total OOP I have been paying into.

The not so great part? My primary wont cover the baby. Period. Once she is no longer in my body, they will not cover her unless my parents adopt her because their plan only covers their dependants and she isn't one of them. She is mine. So, her primary, and only, insurance is the same one I have been using, DH's.

So, my question is, can/should I just not claim the "new" insurance as my primary and leave billing the way it is since I will otherwise be paying the $600 total OOP in the end for me and then finishing off the $5000 total OOP for her at the hospital vs just paying the $5000 for both of us? Is that even legal? And am I missing something that would somehow make using both insurances better since I will still benefit from the co-insurance for me if I use both.

I am not totaly sure how much her care would even cost so maybe it would be cheaper if we don't get close to the $5000 OOP?

Did this make any sense to anyone? I know it confuses the crap out of me.
