I really want to cancel our cable because it's so expensive, and I almost never watch it. It would be way cheaper for me to buy the couple of shows that I do watch (esp with Netflix on demand and Hulu offering so much these days).
Anyone going cable-free?

We don't have cable, per se. The hubs actually climbed on top of our roof and attached these crazy antennas and we pick up TV channels through that. For free. But if there's a storm or anything, we get no TV.

We canceled our cable half a year ago. Even with dvr, we were just not watching enough of it to justify the cost.

We're tossing around the idea of kicking cable, but I just can't give it up quite yet. We don't have as much available through Netflix in Canada, and we can't get hulu up here

We didn't have cable for a while, and I'm thinking of going back to that. Our TV has internet, so we can stream netflix directly to it. Same goes for hulu plus (although we don't subscribe to that service yet). I feel like we waste a lot of useless time in front of the TV watching cable shows that we wouldn't watch for any other reason except they happen to be on. Once baby arrives I know we'll have our hands full, so I don't see a lot of reason to keep the cable box in our life. Plus all of the cable companies rip you off after the initial 6-12 months of subscribing.

I don't think we would ever cancel our cable because we use our DVR all the time. It's the only way we watch any shows.

Our directv is currently suspended. We needed to save some money around christmas, so we asked to have our account suspended. Not having cable wasn't that bad. I think we agreed to get rid of it completely. Although, we can't see the show walking dead and when breaking bad comes back, I know we'll wish we had it.

We love TV so we would have a hard time giving up cable. Even with everything that is available online, the major issue for us would be NFL. games - no way to watch those other than on TV!

We've always just had the lowest option that gives us the network channels (abc, cbs, nbc, fox), and our tv picks up the signal in HD, so it's worth it to us to watch news, sports, and a few evening shows clearly for about $15/mo.
We tried some antenna options, but we live on the edge of town and get no/bad signal. Oh well.

We were thinking about it before I went back to work and we were looking for ways to cut expenses. But we are TV people too-- well, I am a huge TV person (love to have it on in the background) and we just couldn't see living without ESPN.

We don't have cable, but I still "watch" a lot of tv (I like to leave it on in the background while I do stuff around the house). We have a Roku with Netflix and Hulu Plus subscriptions, so we pay about $20/month for my tv-always-on addiction. We could have used the PS3, but hubs liked having a different machine dedicated to tv since it would be on a lot.
When we had cable we DVR'd *everything*, so watching everything on Hulu/Hulu Plus feels exactly the same.

We gave up cable. We hooked up an old school rabbit ears antenna to our TV and it picks up a bunch of HD channels. We also have an attachment to our computer (that is plugged into the TV) that acts like a DVR. Honestly, more often than not, we are watching shows from DVD (Netflix) or streaming.

I could never give up cable haha, I'm liek a crackhead.
I use Netflix, but as good as it is it doesn't cover all the bases for me. I don't bother with Hulu Plus, I just stick with DVR.

We went without cable for the first year and a half, and then got it when we bought our house. We're now *thisclose* to canceling because it is SO expensive! We're probably going to put up an antennae and maybe get a Roku or just a Hulu Plus account.

I on the other hand, can go without it--- I watch most shows online... and can learn to get by with the ones I do watch on tv.

@mrs. wagon Hulu Plus was essential to me for giving up cable since we can get the latest episodes a day or so after they air. Since it has more recent seasons than Netflix I ended up really liking it for catching up on shows that people told me I would love but I never got around to watching. I love Hulu Plus, but since we don't have regular tv/cable, it's really all I watch.
For sports and anything that we can't get on the Roku DH streams it from his laptop connected to the tv with an HD cable.

I haven't had cable since spring of 2008 and seldom miss it. Once in a while there will be something that I really want to watch that I'll have to miss, but that's okay. Hubs has a slightly harder time because he loves sports but he'll watch when we hang out at his parents' house. We don't use netflix or huluplus, but we do watch hulu.com nearly every day.

We just got rid of our cable 2 months ago. It's sad but we were totally addicted to TV. But now, I love it. I don't miss it at all. Like a lot of other people I watch my favorite shows that I miss on hulu

I didn't have cable until my husband and I moved in together. I wish we didn't have it now. We watch too much TV but my hubby would be so sad if he couldn't have his ESPN!

We've been cable free for over a year now! We have a Roku and subscribe to Hulu and Netflix. It's super easy to access our shows through Roku. I do miss Food Network--there are limited shows streaming online.

We are cable free!! We have high speed internet (couldn't stand not having that! no way!), netflix & hulu plus! It isn't so bad at all except for sports but we usually go to a friends anyways or watch at a restaurant.

We canceled our cable about 6 months ago and I really don't miss it.....and I used to watch A LOT of TV. Now that LO's here though, I just don't have time. Until a month ago, we only had Netflix and I've actually really enjoyed watching old TV shows I missed. Recently, we got a HD antennae to get local channels (only able to get 3) but that's only because my husband likes to watch the news.
When we run out of shows to watch on Netflix, we'll probably subscribe to Hulu Plus.
