DS, who will be the grand old age of 9 months tomorrow, had his third swimming class last Sunday, and they've been going so well that I ended up joining the pool and doing some lap swims myself!
Anyone else teaching their LO to swim, or jumping into the pool themselves?

We did a class in May when she was about 20 months. It was fun and I had to get in with her.

We did it last year (at a little over one year). We did local parks and recs which was a complete waste of money. This year we started a new program in February and he is 2 and 3 months old and he can jump in, get to his back and float, turn over and reach the wall and climb out.

I did a class with DS last month and we had a good time but it was really tough making it there twice a week. DD is currently taking classes as well and is getting more comfortable with wearing goggles and putting her face in.

Yes we are in our second month and it has been great for helping me get more active. I get more exercise hovering over her in the ocean (she loves to wade in up to her neck) than anything.

We do private mommy & me classes (as in, we go to the pool or ocean together and I teach him the relevant stuff!). Eventually I'll enroll him in real classes so that he has good technique for strokes and such, but he can do all the jumping in, turning over, blowing bubbles, kicking, etc. that is typically taught at this age.

We just started once a week with a private instructor and LO loves it! DH is in charge of swimming as he likes it more so he gets in with her. LO is 19 months.

We started at 6 months (2x week) and we "practice" every day.

We take her into our pool in our backyard. She hated it the first few times but now she loves it!
I think I will sign her up for swim lessons next summer!

This was last year at just about 15 months old. This was 2 weeks of every day lessons, 2 weeks of no lessons and 2 weeks of every day lessons. Mind you the lessons were not lessony at all. We taught him everything he learned.

@brownie: Those videos are fantastic! DW takes photos of our LO at his classes so far, but we may have to upgrade to video when he's a little more comfortable in the water, and a little less distracted by mobile phones.

We take lessons once a week. LO is 18 months old and she's been taking lessons since she was 6 months. The first four to five months were more getting confortable with the water. Now she's learning to jump in and go under water.

@brownie: Wow!!! Incredible. I wish I had started LO around 18 mos. We started at almost 2 1/2 and she still absolutely loves the water but has a few fears, I think b/c of her age. She voluntarily picked up a ring off the pool floor once and was elated. But I usually have to coax her to do underwater canonballs, rocket ships etc. Her main fun thing is wading around on her own...she likes to be in control.
