Funny! I've never watched it, but I do see the appeal. We actually had the fire place taken out before we moved in. It was just a small, free-standing gas one, and would have been a hazard for little kids. Sometimes I regret removing it!

We bought a place with a fireplace this Spring and have been using it almost every weekend this winter! I love a toasty fire!!

@mediagirl: The one that was there got super hot (like, give you serious burns, hot) on all sides. And all sides were accessible because it stood out from the wall. Couple that with corners that screamed, "child mutilation," and it just needed to go.
A pellet stove would be awesome!

I put that on when I was wrapping presents. I loved it. ILs have a fireplace that was lit on Christmas. So nice.

Ha ha! We have a woodburning stove and I LOVE using it! The only thing is that it shuts the heat off, which is great for our bills, but then it makes the upstairs of the house (including D's bedroom) a little chilly. So we have to stop adding logs around 5 so that it goes out and the heat kicks back on.

@littlebug: how are you liking the wood burning? This is our first year using it and we weren't sure if it would create too much soot. So we left the option of adding a gas insert later on. But soot seems to be a non issue thus far. And we are loving the wood burning scent!
