Did anyone else transition their LO to daycare once they were older - like 18-24m+? How did it go?

J is 2.5 and until now has had a family member watch him PT while I worked PT and juggled school... with me in FT nursing school now, he's in daycare and he just started today... He does fine there, but he doesn't nap - he had a trial day too and both times no nap or even close... so it makes for a miserable evening... I'm not sure how long it will take for him to learn to nap there? It's a completely different set up - small cots, all the toddlers in one room together whereas at home, he's in his crib, with white noise and his own room.
